One accountant might check depreciation, another sales tax payment, etc.
I'm glad to hear that.
Not sure why you’d assume any of that with zero information.
Not "guilt by association" exactly. But I think I've mentioned elsewhere on this thread Carly Fiorina's "No American has a right to a job" and Elon Musk ("Eff Your Own face because I will go to war with you the likes of which you cannot possibly imagine" over H1-Bs for quite pedestrian level engineering slots paying $90k - $110k last Christmas).
I hadn't heard you mention, maybe I missed it, that you were specifically looking for CPAs when I first replied. But I do remember being at multiple Fortune 500 / decibillion privately held companies that went out of their way to train their employees on new technologies, or to pay for Masters' Degrees.
I've written about offshoring and such on Free Republic for ...18 years or so?
Soapbox mode --
Way back when, Microsoft was sitting on $57 billion in cash.
They decided to pay it as a special dividend to the sharehoulders.
Given your background, you understand what that means.
They were admitting they were too clueless to figure out how to deploy that money into further money-making enterprise.
But at the same time they were pushing to hire in India.
As Brian Valentine said, "Think INDIA! Two for the price of one!"
They could've put that $57 into T-bills and gotten enough in free cash flow to pay full market price for all Americans.
Without jeopardizing the principal or free cash flow form continuing operations -- those same operations which had financed that pile.
This is greed beyond a level which would have made the 1800s robber barons blush.
And it's been going on for 25-30 years; or even before, when Bill Clinton hollowed out our manufacturing to give to the Third World.
It hasn't made Americans' lives better as promised; it has instead greatly concentrated the wealth in the hands of the top 1%, the top 0.5%, the top 0.01%.
And then these vermin have the nerve to blame Americans for struggling while their heads are being held in the cesspool.
Optics matter.
Okay whatever.
We can just put it behind us and move on.
Will do.
And I noted that you are flexible enough to allow remote work.
Good luck on your CPA search — may I suggest you look at recently retired white men, or those willing to work half time as they approach retirement?
Your words;
this season - sounds like seasonal help
remote - no office
independent contractor - the opposite of permanent
six figures - if was anything higher than low six figures you would have said so
overseas - cheap
Filipino - cheap
Quickbooks - cheap
You cannot find anyone because you are either unwilling or unable to pay the going rate for a CPA qualified in taxes. That is another way of saying you are cheap.
lol - dammit you’re ignorant.
Nearly every firm has to resort to remote help now, because you can’t get locals. We’ve paid headhunters tens of thousands trying. You don’t ever get to the point of discussing salary.
Employees don’t want to commute and work in an office all day anymore. It’s why our firm, and so many others, are forced, unwillingly, to farm returns out of state and overseas. Read the links and first hand accounts of other FReepers.. right here. The industry is literally in crisis - for real. It has nothing to do with salaries, it’s a manpower shortage.
Everyone in the biz knows what tax “season” is. You don’t. Nothing to do with your imagined seasonal hiring. Quickbooks is commonly used accounting SOFTWARE. It’s the name of the company, it doesn’t denote frugality, or “cheap,” clownboy.
You’re one reason FR is spriraling - every thread has some geriatric, malcontent, dirt-stupid harpy stirring the s**t, no matter how innocuous the topic.
I cannot believe you run a business when your head is shoved this far up your ass.
Your reply is indicative of why you cannot find help. My accounting firm has no issues finding help. But then they offer their CPAs a permanent job as an employee with high salaries a gold plated benefits and a partner track. With an office and the appropriate staff to assist them. And a reasonable number of hours.
“It has nothing to do with salaries, it’s a manpower shortage.” Yeah I heard you “Six figures” for a contract position that preferably knows Quickbooks.
Are you actually looking for CPAs or just cheap help? I don’t know of many third world country CPAs.
Tell us
What are the requirements: education, certification, experience?
What is the contract rate?
What are your performance measures for making contractual payments?
I am even willing to make a referral if the offer is right.
lol - comedy at this point.
I stated the requirements, education, certs at the very top of thread - in part; CERTIFIED Public Accountant.
You’re clueless, but that inherently means 4 years of college and passing the exam. The “certifications” you’re yammering about is exactly what the “C” stands for in the job title. CERTIFIED. What part of “certified” don’t you understand when asking about “certifications?”
It wouldn’t be appropriate to declare salary here for any number of reasons, including background, international experience, software knowledge etc.
And yes, despite you knowing everything about a business you know nothing about, there actually are CPAs who would want to work from home but can’t get or don’t have access to enough clients to keep them busy. I know several (that wouldn’t fit) and two FReepers have PM’d me since posting this. YOU even said you might know one yourself.
How do you resolve claiming nobody would ever do this, yet immediately tell me you might have a referral, to someone who pays “chump change” no less. Are you a day drinker?
I don’t want your supposed referral, or any business with you whatsoever. Thanks.
For those needing further info - and the occasional DUMMY - the Managing Member asked me to post this:
Thank you! Here are my responses to some of the comments:
1. We currently have a Tax Manger who is an Enrolled Agent (EA) and we have had several EAs on payroll. EAs are not equivalent to CPAs. Although many are highly proficient in tax preparation, tax review and representation before the IRS, in our experience many EAs lack the fundamental financial accounting knowledge that CPAs have. Many EAs have a business degree but not specifically in accounting and CPAs are required to adhere to the state licensing requirements of an additional 30 hours of Master level business classes, a Master’s Degree or MBA, in addition to work experience.
2. We offer flexible work hours, a competitive salary based on experience and education and are not looking for seasonal candidates, we’re looking for long-term mutually beneficial relationships.
3. Answers to specific questions:
a. Requirements: Active CPA license, at least 5 years of public accounting experience in a tax practice.
b. Rate: Depends on education and experience but is competitive.
c. Performance Measures: Feedback on every tax project that is prepared or reviewed. Weekly timesheet needs to be submitted with client name and hours worked. Quarterly and semi-annual performance reviews discussing strengths, opportunities for improvement, goals and productivity.
4.In response to the comment on third world countries CPAs, in many countries including India and Pakistan, accounting students study US GAAP and tax laws and they if eligible they can sit for the US CPA or CMA exams or become Chartered Accountants.
5. We have a Bookkeeping department led by a Bookkeeping Director with separate staff, so no QB experience required. This position does not require any work in QB. However, for business clients, it’s sometimes easier and quicker to review transactions directly in the software than in a printed GL.
6. We specialize in international tax and planning, consulting and compliance for real estate investors. We understand that not all CPAs specialize in these areas and can shift the workload to coincide with relevant expertise.
I identify as a CPA.
Gimme your information and I will look over the money... heh heh
As I said tell us what you are offering. Let see you backup your claim to pay is not the reason you cannot find anyone with numbers not rants.
You use foreign workers. Who are doubtless not CPAs. So you want CPAs but you don’t use CPAs. There is an almost endless catalogue of credentials to add to the CPA. Do you want them enrolled? Do want CEUs specifically in taxes?
Go ahead post the job description and contract rate right here. You may not only snag a CPA wants low 6 figures, no benefits, no partnership track, and no permanent employment but you may pickup some business.
My son’s cpa firm...he is in trades, was eaten by regional investment capital cpa firm.
Horrible work. Just sent in. We are going to have to find someone who can unbraid it and repair it with 25 filing.
The takeover company is thrilled to tell you they are the most diverse place on the planet.
Very bad
