I get it but air traffic controllers and essential personnel should not be allowed to completely desert in events like this. They could work out creative scheduling if needed to cover child care issues or need for second part time job but if they put no effort to try and work to keep the sky safe and just call in sick to sit at home then they should be fired and not get backpay.

Saw a post a few days ago purportedly from a person with a long career as an ATC. This person said it’s a lie that the ATCs have no access to money during a shutdown.
