Is Firefox and DuckDuckGo blocking access to newsmax?
11/10/2025 | antidemoncrat

When I try to access news max on Firefox using DuckDuckGo search engine I get the message "Secure Connection Failed". What's going on?

My DuckDuckGo browser links me to Newsmax and Newsmax TV from its search results.

It might be your current VPN connection.

I use Brave and DuckDuckGo with no problem accessing NewsMax.

My bride -- I am her tech support -- uses Firefox and Startpage. Also no problem accessing NewsMax.

Your ISP provider or possible use of a VPN might be the source of your problem.

Hope the thread answers your issues.

No idea but trying to turn off DuckDuckGo’s AI is almost impossible

Sounds like Newsmax’s fault. Websites have to get a “certificate” that they’re servers are secure each year. Your browser is set to require that certificate to make a connection with a website; it retains such a certificate itself. When your copy of that certificate expires, it checks to see if Newsmax has a valid, unexpired certificate to update it with. But it doesn’t do this unless yours expired. People whose certificates haven’t expired won’t face this problem when they visit Newsmax.

You probably visit Newsmax a lot, so you got your previous certificate immediately after the last time they updated theirs. People who took longer after Newsmax last updated their certificate to visit Newsmax won’t have this issue until their certificate expires.

There’s strangely no built-in warning system for when a website’s certificate is about to expire, so it’s way easier to slip up on something like this than it seems.

Maybe their AI takes care of their certificate and it forgot because it’s not coping something but it’s something new ,LOL

Newsmax and OAN (One America News) are about the only two places to find true news.

A target for the left

“Sounds like Newsmax’s fault. Websites have to get a “certificate” that they’re servers are secure each year.”

Which would be true if “everyone” was getting the message. But I can verify that DDG is indeed censoring and controlling access. Especially from certain geographic locations. I have even been getting “No Results Found” from DDG for simple common searches I have done before with no problem. That error has not been seen since Google was brand new back in the day and the internet was still empty. It is impossible to get zero results except for maybe exact domain names that are not owned yet...

Another 3rd party service that is controlling access and information is CloudFlare. CloudFlare is a straight up government information control and kill switch tool. Any domains who use CloudFlare are total idiots.

The Newsmax certificate is signed by Let’s Encrypt - the certificate is valid through Dec 3, 2025. Does your Firefox browser have the certificate for Let’s Encrypt in its certificate store?

>> Which would be true if “everyone” was getting the message. <<

Nope. Read on. You only get it once your version of the certificate expires. If their cert expired on 11/5/25, and you downloaded it on 11/4/25, you’re golden until 11/4/26.

I get this same thing on Safari, but can read a few articles (on Newsmax) before the connection cuts out. Doesn’t happen on any other site.
