Well Rand and Ron Paul are a bit nutty like many FR types I see these days..Matters not about the National Debt as the die is already cast and nothing can be done to unring that bell. Trump called that one right as well back in 2020....Trump said lots of folks are going to be caught without a chair once the music stops playing and it will stop playing.
For the sake of my niece Sierra who died last year from drug overdose..damn them all and bomb scourge their operations! Screw them over like they are screwing over young people in our country and all over the world! F them!
It makes no sense to expend such a vast amount of resources on a few little boats hauling a few kilos of cocaine for European consumption when deadly Fentanyl is flooding into our country from Mexico, killing Americans by the thousands.
Sorry, I’m America First. Spend our tax dollars and resources on stopping the tsunami of deadly drugs killing our people and ruining our cities — and the tsunami isn’t emanating from Venezuela.
I hope Trump is just sabre rattling, that he’s hoping all those naval and air assets will somehow dislodge Maduro and won’t go so far as a land campaign to bring about the regime change he wants if the rattling doesn’t do the trick (and it’s doubtful it will).
I’ve always liked Rand. And I’ll always have huge respect for how he challenged the official narratives on COVID and went after Fauci. And I love his independence on foreign policy and his opposition to the neo-cons.
But, sometimes, on something like this shutdown, I’d prefer it if Rand were more of a team player.
I would argue for a dual approach. Seal the border from drugs coming in from Mexico. And destroy any narco boat on the high seas. Each will damage the cartel’s bottom line.
As far as the expense for the latter, it probably isn’t all that much. You’ve got to pay those servicemen whether they’re operating in the Caribbean or sitting in a port.
I will certainly agree with you about the saber rattling. Trump must avoid mission creep. Shooting up narco boats, good. American infantry in Caracas, bad.

Oh, I hate — I mean really hate — what these ghastly drugs are doing to human beings. Death, destruction, and misery. Pure evil. Those who manufacture, package, transport and sell them are merchants of death.
The thing is, though, that unless it was in the highly unlikely event she somehow died from a cocaine overdose with no opioid involvement (very rare), her tragic end had nothing to with Venezuela. Even in such a rare case, less than 15% of cocaine entering the US transited via Venezuela (none is produced there).
I’d rather see us spend our resources on effective interdiction of these deadly drugs — blowing up those little boats may look spectacular on video, but it’s not very effective (understatement). A tad less cocaine for some EU bureaucrats in Brussels looking to get a buzz on maybe, but it does nothing at all to prevent another heartbreaking fentanyl death in the US.
Again, my heart goes out to you and I am so very sorry about the loss of your niece.

535 Members of the House and Senate are the reason America is in debt and is as F’d up as it is.
