All politics is local, the saying goes. The same applies to washrooms. When you need to go, all that really matters is the state of the nearest washroom. And in southwestern Ontario’s Waterloo Region, where I live, something very peculiar is happening to the local washrooms. Case in point is Kitchener’s Centre in the Square, the area’s premier soft-seat performance venue that hosts a wide range of popular musicians and other acts.
Prior to renovations in 2023, the 2,000-seat facility had eight washrooms serving patrons on the auditorium’s main and balcony levels – four men’s and four women’s. Following a $2.4 million project primarily funded by federal and provincial grants, however, Centre in the Square took on an entirely different look. Now there are five unisex washrooms, two men’s rooms and a single women’s room spread across the two floors.
On the main floor where the bulk of the audience sits, the entire right side of the house is served by two large unisex washrooms. Here men and women must line up together to access a series of individual stalls that each contain a toilet, paper dispenser and garbage can. Everyone then shares a common bank of sinks and mirrors. This new arrangement, which upends centuries of sex-separated bathrooms, brings with it plenty of double-takes, puzzled looks and awkward moments. (Including when I took my 89-year-old mother to the Nutcracker.) But it is by no means unique.

Heeyyy! Sit on it. The Fonz
49 years ago I lived in a student housing co-op that had one bathroom per floor, used by both sexes. The showers were in individual stalls with curtains, and the toilets were in individual stalls with doors. Nobody objected to the arrangement, and I never heard of any abusive incidents during the year I lived there.
“Glad these are gone.”
I don’t know. The bars I hang out in still have these and they work fine. Only, these look nicer than the galvanized steel ones in the bar.
You would think liberals would love the continued existence of urinals, even in unisex restrooms. They use a fraction of “mother earth’s precious” water per flush.
Perhaps they not only want men to pee on the seat, but also to not flush? To save gaia.
The so called ‘gender’ craze is over. Men pretending to be women - aka as cross dressers - have LOST THE BATTLE, THE WAR and even the STUPID LIBERAL PRESS.
IT’S OVER.
Men pretending to be women are men. We all know the guy who tells us he’s GOD is not God, but were NOT going to waste our time talking him out of his delusions. We’re also not going to believe him for even a second. This issue is over.
feminists are just women who are mad at God because they have to squat to pee.
My late husband when confronted by ‘gender neutral’ bathrooms would either pee on the floor or pee on the seat.
I remember the ones at floor level.
“And in southwestern Ontario’s Waterloo Region, where I live”
He said, “Water” and “Loo”!
I’m the first to notice?
A truly gender neutral single-use bathroom has both a toilet and a urinal. Even women can appreciate that, because with a urinal in the room the toilet has been used less often by men just to pee and the toilet will likely be left in better sanitary condition due to that fact. The urinal eliminates the condition of men in a hurry using the toilet to pee, leaving the toilet seat down, getting the toilet seat soiled with pee, or conversely putting the toilet seat up and when finished not putting it back down leaving a woman in a hurry sitting directly on the rim of the toilet bowl, not noticing she needed to put the toilet seat back down. Urinals are gender friendly conveniences, not gender harmful.
One of the signs we live in a matriarchy, not the patriarchy that Feminazi’s claim, is that urinals are not installed in private residences. If we actually lived in a patriarchy, each house would have at least one.
We flew from Spokane to New Orleans and back two weeks ago. Lady’s rooms in airports get mixed reviews from me. Atlanta gets an A+, huge, no waiting. and automatic toilet seat covers come out of the wall whtn you open the door. Handwashing equally modernized, no touch water and soap dispensers.
let it fly where ever
I’ll sign a petition to keep urinals every time I have to stand to aim at a toilet.
sharia law
This is only to adhere to sharia law.
Very specific rules on how to to poop and pee.
All men must sit.

Danged women. Always leaving the seat down.
