US judge orders Trump administration to fully fund Snap benefits in November

A federal judge in Rhode Island ordered the Trump administration on Thursday to find the money to fully fund food stamps for 42 million low-income Americans in November by Friday, in a rebuke to the government’s plan to only provide reduced aid during the shutdown.

US district judge John J McConnell Jr criticized the administration’s plan to partly fund Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Snap) benefits in November, saying it had failed to comply with an order he issued on Saturday requiring the government to ensure Americans received full or partial benefits no later than Wednesday.

He also said the administration plowed ahead with a plan to partly cover benefits without addressing – as required– the fact that in many states, it could take weeks or months to implement the reduced benefits.

Do we have an actual representative government anymore? Over 300 Fed judges and just ONE from a Fed court (8th district) can rule like a mafia boss on a matter of national importance.

I’m not even touching on the subject if the freeze is ethical or not, that’s irrelevant.

I asked grok what he , an artificial intelligence, thought:

“ A single district judge in Rhode Island just ordered the Trump admin to fully fund November SNAP benefits nationwide—$8B for 42M people—overriding a shutdown standoff. It prevents real hunger, but one unelected, Obama-appointed judge shouldn’t get to dictate national policy like a king. With 670+ federal district judges, nationwide injunctions let any one of them halt executive action everywhere based on personal ideology, bypassing Congress and elections. This chaos undermines representative democracy: policy should come from voters and their reps, not random benches. The Supreme Court’s Trump v. CASA (June 2025) already curbed “cosmic” injunctions, and bills like the No Rogue Rulings Act (passed House 2025) aim to limit relief to plaintiffs only. If appealed, this SNAP order could shrink to just the suing cities. Shutdowns suck, but judicial overreach is a deeper threat to self-government. (Source: Grok by xAI)”

President John J McConnell Jr

It has a nice ring to it, perhaps he should run for office?

That’s what many judges seem to think. One would assume that being educated in the Law, they would be well versed regarding the US Constitution....

Let’s just let judges open the government. No need for a budget. Judges will just order what they want paid.

why not... .i dunno... order the dems to not force the spending of taxpayer money on foreigners in the US illegally?

would that be too close to actually enforcing the law?

The judge should order the US Senate to pass the CR. The judicial branch is superior to the legislative branch, so the senators would have to do as this judge says, right?

America no longer has constitutional seperation of powers for the legislature, executive and judicial

The nation is now being run by a handful of unelected Kahgaroo court leftist judges who make up their own laws and order the president around like one of their illegal alien lawn-boys.

Why spend billions on presidential elections or our multi-billion dollar congressional greedheads when these out-of-control judges do it all for a fraction of the cost?

Which was swiftly appealed to SCOTUS where Trump will likely win.
You can't have Democrats do a Shutdown, then the same Democrats demand that SNAP be paid in full.
Not going to happen.

SCOTUS just recently ruled that these lower court federal judges can’t rule nationwide injunctions against us which is essentially telling President Trump he has the right to do what he has been doing. Or not to do.

Did Grok AI really say “Shutdowns suck?” LOL!

The way they’re pulling out all stops to get SNAP funding uninterrupted, I wonder how much of SNAP is money being deposited into fraudulent accounts and used in a money laundering scheme to anti-American organizations and individuals.

Alltis makes zero sense.
The Congress neglected to provide, as required by law, funding for the various operations of the government (ethical and moral, or not). Then a single Federal judge “orders” the executive department to fund specific portions of the PRIOR appropriations measure, which is no longer in force.
Time for this judge to be impeached, removed, and disbarred.

The inmates are truly in charge of the asylum...

Funny, how come no district level judge has ordered the Democrats to open the government so the SNAP benefits can be paid?
