The Meltdown at Heritage—and the Fight for MAGA’s Future
The Free Press ^ | 11.02.25 | Eli Lake

The latest battleground in the war over MAGA’s future is one of the conservative movement’s most illustrious think tanks: the Heritage Foundation. On Thursday, its president, Kevin Roberts, released a video to defend the honor of Tucker Carlson only a few days after the former Fox News host interviewed white Christian nationalist and proud antisemite Nick Fuentes.

In his video post, Roberts began by saying, “Christians can critique the state of Israel without being antisemitic. And of course, antisemitism should be condemned.” He then went on to attack supporters of President Donald Trump who had been attacking Carlson.

“We will always defend our friends against the slander of bad actors who serve someone else’s agenda. That includes Tucker Carlson, who remains, and as I have said before, always will be, a close friend of the Heritage Foundation,” he said. “The venomous coalition attacking him are sowing division. Their attempt to cancel him will fail.”

Probably so. But why is the hatred of one person so important? He, nor his interview by Carlson, has moved one molecule in this world.

Kevin Roberts is under no obligation to condemn Tucker for anything publicly.

It's utterly ridiculous to demand someone else condemn Tucker rather than condemning him directly.

Roberts and the Heritage Foundation should and DID condemn Fuentes, who made the comments.

Cancel culture and woke tactics used by the right are no better than when they are used by the left.

Fuentes should be condemned because he’s one that made the comments.

Kevin Roberts is under no obligation to condemn Tucker for anything publicly.

And we are under no obligation to give him, or the organization that pays him, any more donations.

“Kevin Roberts is under no obligation to condemn Tucker for anything publicly.”

He supported Tucker, which is very different from remaining silent. And - ANYONE retains the right to say Kevin Roberts behaved like an idiot.

This is NOT about “cancel culture”. It is about supporting someone with a history of softball interviews to Muslims and others who hate Jews. None of us need to do that. I won’t. And I have every right to say Tucker acted like an idiot and Fuentes is a shit!

Remember Trump’s first campaign? How his being rich meant he wasn’t beholden to donors?

How times have changed.

I think because of the horrific events of Butler, PA and Charlie Kirk’s death at Utah … as well as health, age, and other security reasons, President Trump is no longer doing rallies. He rarely has opportunity to mix and mingle with everyday folks now, and is in a DC bubble. So he is becoming more and more distant by design…

Marjorie Taylor Greene, who used to make me wince whenever she spoke, now has my full attention! She seems very in tune with average joes and kitchen table concerns.

He didn’t really mingle with the riff-raff then. Only heard boos when he pushed the killer jabs there—and a lot of good that did!

He’s as out of touch now as it comes. Listens to sycophants lobbying for insider deals while repeatedly claiming we have to show ID to by bread and other groceries.

What’s going on at Heritage right now is almost indistinguishable from a BLM-style struggle session.

As far as MAGA goes, the first major shift was the scuffle re: DOGE - Ramaswamy vs Musk, and then Musk vs Trump. 🤦🏻‍♀️ It took a lot of wind out of Trump’s initial/inaugural momentum. That and Canada 51st state Truth Social 3AM tweets didn’t help…

Also I am not a fan of who Trump picks to be the main faces of his communications team. Tammy Bruce would have been my first choice - but she was relegated to obscure state dept. press briefings and now she’s some assisting envoy at the U.N. ? Karoline Leavitt is quick on her feet but she lacks the gravitas necessary to continue keeping full command of the Trump Agenda narrative. At least from my observations.

MAHA and RFK Jr’s momentum fizzled when Kennedy’s first pick for CDC Director, James Weldon, was forced to withdraw his nomination mere hours before his confirmation hearings. The “mole” that sabotaged his appointment the most was Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, who I pray gets primaried out. He’s the one that vouched for “deep state” Susan Monarez, whose eventual firing became a major headache for RFK and … I don’t even know who holds the CDC position now. 🙄

And finally: foreign policy is splitting the MAGA base and unfortunately has taken Trump off focus from the primary domestic, kitchen table, America First promises he ran on…

adding to what I just wrote: the Epstein Files saga dampened a lot of the good will the voting public had for Trump.

Redirecting the focus of the tariffs and constantly changing them, backtracking on deportations, going for the showy but controversial onsy-twosy deportations instead of policies of mass deportations, backtracking over and over again on Ukraine and Russia, bombing Iran, etc., etc. Most of the crap that shows Trump is again a puppet is what did it, not Caroline Leavitt or Bobby Kennedy.

Oh, cozying up to the Big Tech tracking and control agenda on Day Two, big giveaways to Silicon Valley’s AI and crypto agenda, DOGE turning out to mostly be a cover for advancing the tech control agenda, etc., etc., were also factors in there too. The prancing with billionaires from dinners with Bill Gates to dealmaking shows in the Middle East, Kushner getting his Gaza resort deal, funding and ignoring the ethnic cleansing for that, etc., etc., are all in there too. Big deals with the Big Pharma killers, diversions away from the deadly jabs, nothing to repeal the PREP Act or other legislation that made it legal to lock down and force jabs, etc., etc.
