Who was the poor schlemiel whose job it was to COUNT them (over 110,000!) They won't count every one. They'll count the number in a segment of the web. then extrapolate to the whole thing.

They could do something like how they count sheep. Simply count the legs and divide by eight.
(Yes, spiders lose legs sometimes, so this wouldn’t be exact.)
