There was a lot to digest online this week. There’s a brutal, merciless slaughter of civilians in Nigeria and Sudan.
The silence is deafening. Civilian men, women, and children are being slaughtered in Sudan. Estimates of over 150,000 killed & 14 million displaced since April 2023. Considered the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. No mass protests. No daily political statements/demands. No college campus encampments.
More is unraveling about Arctic Frost, in which the fanatical prosecutor Jack Smith, with the aid of a fiercely partisan Judge James Boasberg, surveilled 20% of the Republican senators, their donors, media companies, including Fox News, Fox Business, Newsmax, OANN, and Sinclair, and conservatives while blocking disclosure to them of the dragnet.
But this week I want to concentrate on the drama at Heritage. I see it as a turning point for American conservatives, illustrating the cowardice of Kevin Roberts, head of one of the most prestigious conservative domestic organizations.
Let me begin with a bit of psychological background. Tucker Carlson has clearly gone off the rails. Curiously, he has said that he dislikes Christian Zionists more than he hates anyone else on the planet. I say "curiously" because he wrote a loving obituary for his father, Ambassador Richard Carlson, who died this March and was a well-known Christian Zionist, a vice chair of the Foundation for Defense of Democracy which supports Israel and the Jewish people. Carlson has specifically targeted “Christian Zionists” Senator Ted Cruz, former president George W. Bush, and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee. You might think Heritage would want to distance itself from Carlson, but when the issue was met after Carlson’s powderpuff interview and nodding agreement with his guest Nick Fuentes, Heritage dropped the ball, disagreeing with Fuentes but protecting Carlson, even as it stripped Carlson from its list of donor

I was even more against providing money to Ukraine as you can easily see from my posting on that subject. I want an end to all these expensive and never ending wars that never seem to accomplish anything in America’s favor.
Pfft .
TDS hit piece with zero real world facts
I don’t follow the Ukie / Russ flame wars, so I didn’t notice.
It is a reasonable position to oppose American funding of others’ wars. I agree with that somewhat. I regularly suggest that Israel be completely independent of American money and arms. They can’t afford to have American opinion restrain their Democracy from doing what it is obligated to do. I see just a few holes in their military capabilities: Fighters and JDAMs primarily, and the corner case of bunker busters.
Israel quite heavily (6% of GDP?) funds its own military. And the American Congress votes them some minority more as a matter of our politics and support for a strategic ally. That’s legislatable, and can be changed as we and our congresscritters decide.
I’m frankly at the point that in order to shut up you and all the other Israel haters, I’m in favor of cutting off all funding to the Israeli military. You anti-Semites are getting so damnably rabid that cutting off your argument on this point is more valuable than the lost cash. Israel can come up with the cash. They’ve got it. What they can’t stand is the continuous line of attack by anti-Semites in conservatism using a true but non-central attack on Israel to break the conservative support for Israel.
So be it. Cut Israeli funding to shut the mofos up. Preserve the alliance for cash.
Well it’s real world fact that naturalized citizens are being deported for their beliefs. I posted the evidence above in an article link. I don’t agree with the libertarians on everything but I do support them when it comes to supporting our civil and constitutional rights. The Israel lobby is attacking our first Amendment rights in various ways and that alone is enough for me to put them on my enemies list.
Israeli base spending on the IDF is 5.75% of GDP and about $30b.
American base aid for the IDF is about 0.72% of GDP and $3.8b.
I think that in this base non-war case, Israel should choose to not accept Congress’ choice to send them money. It undermines their independence and fractures the conservative support for an ally.
Yes if we weren’t supporting Israel financially that would make a huge difference. As it is we are now fully complicit in what they are doing. Cut the purse strings and few will care what Israel is doing. Whatever they do will be on them alone instead of them drawing us further into their mess. The vast majority of Americans will never support the Greater Israel Project so if that is the route Israel intends to follow it’s probably time to sever the relationship anyway.
Grok gives a properly complex answer, divided between a war and non-war scenario. I’m using the non-war scenario here because it’s more straightforward, and because it’s the natural rate we’ve voted for for generations, and to which we are likely to return shortly.
Shutting up anti-semites like you is so worth it.
So if Israel gave up the 11% of the IDF budget that comes from America, you would support the Western Democracy against the invading hordes of islam?
So worth it.
“The Greater Israel Project”
