I’m afraid of death because it inflates the definition of what a person is, or love, until they become the same, love, the beloved, immaterial.

I’m afraid of death, the magician who makes vanish and who makes odd things appear in odd places—your name engraves itself on a stranger’s chest in letters of char.

Disturbing.

I’m still working with understanding her syntax and her use of the word “they”. Still calibrating the second half of her statement. Maybe English is not her first language.

Most likely English is her first language. In order to prevent not going crazy, I think we have to learn how to not cringe when reading and hearing this dreadful grammar and syntax. It’s clear that some people under 50 never spent a day in English class.

Pairing plural “they” with singular noun is grating.

The “’me and mom’ went to the store” instead of “’mom and I’ went to the store” is the worst. And it’s becoming more prevalent all the time. Even (alleged) educated journalists and politicians do it.

Then Job answered...

But as for me,
I know that my Redeemer lives.
In the end, He will stand upon the earth.

Even after my skin has been destroyed,
I will see God in my flesh,
will see Him myself.

My eyes will look at Him, and not as a stranger.

My heart longs within me.

- Job 19:1, 25-27

Hint: most poetry is bad. Only a very few can write meaningful poetry.

The Books of Psalms and Proverbs display some of the best poetic communication I’ve ever read. Succinct and lucid.
Some of the Bible is not easy reading, it may be more a matter of reporting historical events. However, much of it is quite accessible to the average person, available to all who have a few moments to contemplate.
