What became of Freeper Archy? I enjoyed reading his posts. He was knowledgeable and intelligent.
I have had numerous FReepers suddenly disappear forever. I think it is usually bad news.
I dunno... hasn’t posted in 4 years

Ask Mehitabel, she might know.

I just did a search for user Archy on FR’s search, and it shows that person hasn’t posted anything since 2021.
Um, bad story, if I remember correctly. Wife is still a FReeper, I believe. Gone a long time. Best just to let that one go.
Don Marquis was silent on the subject.
At least someone remembers who Don Marquis was. I was beginning to wonder.
Thank you.
Not bad news if he is with Jesus!

2 things:
1. I just read the name Mehitabel in 1 Chronicles 1 thia A.M.
2. My mom had a copy of the book on her shelf. One day, in my adolescence, I decided to read some of it. Hilarious. rThat was in the early 60s. I asked mom how she came to have it. She said it was a text assigned by her English prof at CO St. Teachers’ College, Greely, CO.
Her pof’s name? James A. Michener. He wrote a nice greeting in her yearbook. 1941. I had that yearbook, but recently gave it to my younger sister.
Thanks for your post.
You’re welcome. I’m surprised FR’s search actually worked. It usually doesn’t.
Well, I have to admit it’s a long time since I read I Chronicles Chapter 1 in any detail (like never, to be honest) but I just looked and there it is in 1:50, except the KJV spells it Mehetabel.
I first encountered Archy and Mehitabel in the mid-60s, in a Bennett Cerf collection of humor that was around the house when I was a kid. Then I found the 1940 omnibus edition when I was in high school, and I’ve had a copy ever since. I really want to name our next female cat Mehitabel, but my wife isn’t all in on that. We shall see.
My friends and I discovered Archy and Mehitabel in our highschool library in the late 70s. We were kind of literary nerds.
I wasn’t literary as such, I just read everything I could get my hands on. It’s good to see that Don Marquis isn’t completely forgotten yet.
