2 things:
1. I just read the name Mehitabel in 1 Chronicles 1 thia A.M.
2. My mom had a copy of the book on her shelf. One day, in my adolescence, I decided to read some of it. Hilarious. rThat was in the early 60s. I asked mom how she came to have it. She said it was a text assigned by her English prof at CO St. Teachers’ College, Greely, CO.
Her pof’s name? James A. Michener. He wrote a nice greeting in her yearbook. 1941. I had that yearbook, but recently gave it to my younger sister.
Thanks for your post.
Well, I have to admit it’s a long time since I read I Chronicles Chapter 1 in any detail (like never, to be honest) but I just looked and there it is in 1:50, except the KJV spells it Mehetabel.
I first encountered Archy and Mehitabel in the mid-60s, in a Bennett Cerf collection of humor that was around the house when I was a kid. Then I found the 1940 omnibus edition when I was in high school, and I’ve had a copy ever since. I really want to name our next female cat Mehitabel, but my wife isn’t all in on that. We shall see.
