Just the opposite happened. The lodged ball made it easier to retrieve, since the player did not have to chase it down.
If the ball bounces off the wall right to the outfielder, odds are the runners would be on 2nd and 3rd, anyway. Of course we’ll never know, but the rule is clear.
Wrong, if it had hit but not lodged, it would have bounced or rolled quickly back to the outfielder. The lodging was a disadvantage to quick retrieval. Even a second’s difference can make or break a win.
That is ALSO "an effect on further play".
It could have been easier to retrieve if it bounced off the wall, especially if the path was toward the pursuing fielder.
