It is performance theater by the left. They think they can twist the narrative to benefit themselves.

The demoncraps could turn the spigot back on today, but they are the Party of No.

The feckless GOP has been weak in their messaging - yes I know the MSM is rigged against them - but it's a simple message: "We have a bill to feed you but, the demoncraps won't let you eat."

My school district offers free breakfast and lunch for all students regardless of income. The SNAP allowances are very generous, and more than I have spent per month on my own family with my own earned money.

Schools also provide food-filled backpacks on the weekends and summer feeding programs open to all children and teens under 18 years of age.

There should be no problem feeding families on the existing SNAP benefits with money left over.

I can only conclude that the SNAP benefits are being sold for cash by the recipients.

I was in a car conversation with a very successful retired businessman. He segued the conversation into a lecture about Trump’s over spending on the White House instead of using the money on “benefits.” I made no response, and he changed the subject back to cars in another awkward transition.

The point is, this otherwise well-informed guy had bought into some narrative where Trump was somehow responsible for the current shutdown. Somehow Trump was spending like a drunken sailor and everyone else was suffering. King Trump, in other words.

I try to never get involved in conversations with people who see such a different view of reality because they KNOW they are right and no number of facts will dissuade them. The reality is a percentage of the people who vote have no idea how things work or who did what to whom.

'The federal government has been shut down for a month now. '

Sounds like a dream, now people are whining? Has not the gop ran on less gov? I recall the days of tea party bros railing at government spending, I know they don't care anymore, but its nice to think that we can do more with less.

I’ve had conversations with my wife about the parallels between the desperation of the democrats in 2020, when Trump was cruising to re-election, and their response to covid and the current government shutdown obstinance.

This is just a hail-mary ploy, just like the over-the-top response to covid and the george floyd riots.

They are willing to destroy the country, literally and figuratively, for power. That’s all there is to it.

The Rats are NEVER going to get a $1.5 trillion gift for healthcare to illegal aliens. That money for illegals is what they want in return for voting to end the shutdown.

The Rats care NOTHING about American citizens. This is the message that needs to be put out by Trump and all Republicans.

The Commander-in-Chief probably needs to allow lower level commanders to grant compassionate financial leave to non-nuclear, non-vessel military personnel.

Government is not shutdown. Political government at the federal level is.

Governments functioning in the US include portions of the federal government, all state governments, all county governments, all municipal governments and smaller entities like school boards.

The tiny nation of Belgium went through a political shutdown quite like this one, twice. The longest stretched to 589 days.

The Democrat / media hype that GOVERNMENT is shutdown is simply incorrect.

Some government is. As the Trump-Vance administration shut down a portion of government like USAID, one found that agency was involve din all sorts of improper and wasteful acts worldwide, courtesy of Democrats. This isn't much different.

Basically the left is using shut downs to extort more money and power from the citizens and is willing cut off food supplies to radicalize millions of shock troops and cripple the economy. These guys would make the Mafia blush.

from my health care finance plan:

HOSPITAL EMTALA COST ASSISTANCE

I would allow hospitals collect up to $1,000 per incident of EMTALA service from employers, with payment not in excess of $50 per week per employee concerned being due to any and all EMTALA providers and not for more than 100 weeks after service. Such payments on behalf of an employee would be considered to be a debt of the employee to the employer. Employers could collect back from employees and ex-employees (and require EMTALA incident employees to participate in an employer plan).

NOTE: My plan gets the hospitals paid, the invaders care, and sometimes zings the employers not providing insurance (or using E-verify).

NOTE: The Arbeitgeber can get the $50/week from an employee if the Arbeitgeber gives the employee enough work.

hospital - paid
employee/employee’s child - care provided
legal (and most scofflaw) employees - ultimately pay
scofflaw employers - sometimes ultimately pay

That’s $185/month (regardless of my <<100% of FPL income), over $2,200/year, for no care whatsoever so far, two years in.

The American federal government, the most indebted entity on the planet, should NOT continue to function as a charity. The looting of the United States of America through the federal government needs to end.

There are people hurting because of the government shut down. Overwhelmingly those people are democrats. They are overwhelmingly illegals, government employees and people one government services (handouts).

Republicans (the rest of us) who are not getting freebees from the government are not interested in a deal. We will be very very mad at Trump if he reopens the government. Especially if he spends even one dime to do it. We are the ones who voted for Trump because the government is spending too much money. We don’t want a balanced budget. We want a smaller budget. We don’t want to grow the government revenues. We want to shrink the government expenses. We don’t believe for one minute that the government is spending money wisely. We believe the government has far more money than it needs to provide all the services necessary for a first rate country. We have enough money for the military and the social programs if the money was spent wisely.

So Trump will lose if he reopens the government with a good deal. We want no deal if it means more spending. We are happy with the government being closed. And those people complaining are democrats.

The more concerning thing is how massive the government has become, and how many leeches it has created. Welfare leeches in the corporate world, the non working generational welfare leeches crowd, the bureaucratic leech crowd. I don’t get anything from the government but a tax bill. The government shut my business down for kung flu. So I say SCREW EM. I don’t care. I don’t feel the least bit bad for anyone losing money. Not a one.
