New York City’s mayoral election seems to have only reinforced John Rocker’s feelings about the Big Apple.
The former Braves relief pitcher took to X on Tuesday to voice his opinion on the state of the race in which democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani is favored to win.
Rocker, who made headlines with his incendiary comments about New York during an interview for a Sports Illustrated feature in 1999, once again expressed his dislike of the city.
“25 years ago I criticized New York for it’s rapid decline into a third world country,” Rocker started his post. “I was forced to undergo Psychological Counseling, as if I were the crazy one. 25 years later, the city is voting in a muslim socialist for mayor. **** NEW YORK.”
During his interview with journalist Jeff Pearlman in ’99, Rocker bashed New York and Mets fans while also saying he did not like “foreigners.”
“I’d retire first. It’s the most hectic, nerve-wracking city,” Rocker said when asked if he’d ever play in New York.

I remember him. Made me laugh big-time. What his haters didn’t know is what I learned from him. I learned how to get to Shea stadium when the giants were in town.

The only guy who made me laugh more was Bernie Goetz. The 7 car is that one that goes from Times Square to the ballpark.
Ok. After reading the article I got some specifics wrong-that’s ok. I got the gist of it.
How much did Mamdani pay him to say this? This could get him across the finish line.

If I recall, Rocker’s beef with NY began with Mets fans throwing projectiles like batteries at him while he was in the bullpen.
He committed the unforgiveable sin of speaking the truth, and he was destroyed for it since ‘diversity’ is America’s national religion.
Rocker was right then and he is right now.
Rocker is a dick and always will be. I used to be bullied by guys like that-got over it.
Now I just laugh at his stupidity. Let him take the truth arrows.
