maybe this will help with the obesity epidemic among Americas poor!
This was always about corporate fascism.
Shools now offer free breakfast and lunch to needy families so during the school year food stamps should be lowered based on needy children eating ten of their 21 weekly meals at school. This and many other changes should be made now while the govt. is shut down anyway.
“Or turn blue from holding their breaths... tantrum jerks.”
Would love to see the airline pilots union to go on strike and state they will not go back to work until the Democrats end their filibuster. Do it the week of Thanksgiving.
My wife works with SNAP/WIC recipients. Most of them are just bad decisions walking around. Partnered up with the wrong person, generational financial incest and disfunction, Covid rent evictions, drugs, alcohol, prison. Many of them are women raising grandkids. Being Appalachia, all are white and most are kids raised on government money.
I’ll check, I know it’s been talked about.
“Trump did that”
Um.... no...maybe, sort of. It doesn’t sound like the full Monty was applied.
Some states are adjusting the SNAP program to restrict purchases of certain “junk foods,” with new rules expected to be implemented in 2026. These restrictions will ban the use of SNAP benefits for items like soda, candy, and certain processed snacks, though the specific items and states vary.
Waivers: States can apply for waivers from the USDA to implement these restrictions. Several states, including Arkansas, Iowa, Idaho, Indiana, Nebraska, and Utah, have already been approved or are in the process of implementing these changes.
Legislative efforts: There are also federal legislative efforts, such as the “Healthy SNAP Act of 2025,” that aim to expand the list of prohibited items at a national level.
Potential impact: Around 10 million recipients could be affected by these new rules as they come into effect.
Current rules: Currently, SNAP recipients can purchase most eligible groceries, including both healthy and unhealthy food items. The restrictions will specifically target categories like soft drinks, candy, and energy drinks.
BRAVE AI:
As of October 28, 2025, EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) benefits cannot be used to purchase certain junk food items in twelve U.S. states that have received waivers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to implement such restrictions.
These restrictions are set to take effect starting in 2026, with specific implementation dates varying by state.
The banned items generally include soda, sweetened beverages, candy, energy drinks, and some pre-packaged snacks.
The states that have secured USDA waivers include Arkansas, Texas, Nebraska, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Oklahoma, Utah, Florida, Colorado, West Virginia, and Louisiana.
For example, Texas plans to implement its ban on April 1, 2026, restricting purchases of sugary drinks and sweets.
The USDA and the Department of Health & Human Services launched the “Make America Healthy Again” initiative in 2025, which supports these changes to align SNAP benefits with nutritional standards.
It is important to note that this restriction is not nationwide. It applies only to the states that have obtained federal waivers, and the rules can vary slightly between states.
SNAP recipients can still use their EBT cards to buy nutritious staples like bread, milk, meat, produce, and other eligible food items.
The goal of the policy is to promote healthier eating habits and ensure that taxpayer-funded benefits are used for nutritious food essential to health and well-being.
All the welfare stuff has obscured how totally we have hollowed out the low-skill economy, with shrunken real wages ever further from market housing prices.
“Globalism” and immigration should have been stopped decades ago.
Back to basic government cheese, beans rice, cabbage, etc.
Keep the goobermint shut down if that’s the only way to cut illegals off from food stamps. Like ending the handouts to NPR and Big Bird, the fight with the Dims has to take place to accomplish a win for the taxpayers.
And after the shutdown every single person that want their welfare program should have to show up, in person and with documentation, to get back on the program.
