I thought they were dead and buried.

I wish that were true. I loved Radio Shack. The last one in my state closed earlier this year. I think there might be 30 or so authorized dealers still operating.

IMHO if Toys R Us is to make a comeback, they need to learn from their mistake and embrace online sales. They failed to pivot to the online world when shopping online became a thing. (I mean, beyond just the token website; they should have heavily marketed their online sales and made it a good buying experience.)

Otherwise, in a brick and mortar store they face the problem of looting.

2 stores in southern California? I’m surprised. Must be a trial-by-fire concept; if they can survive in southern California, they can survive anywhere.

I knew a guy from New Jersey years ago who worked at a warehouse for them...the theft he told me about by employees would boggle your mind. I’m talking at the warehouse level and docks!

Bay Street Emeryville Mall in the Bay Area

Oh, MY!

Emeryville is RIGHT NEXT TO Oakland.

If you go to this Mall, do not, I repeat, DO NOT stray too far.

Oakland, Kalifornia has the honor of being one of the few, if not the only, place where an In 'N Out Burger establishment closed. Not for the lack of business. One of the main reasons provided for the closer is that they could no longer keep their employees safe. Needless to say, they could also not keep their customers safe.

Radio Shack was great for buying little bits and pieces that you couldn’t get anywhere else.

Like ‘Spirit Halloween’ stores.

There was a recent story here that this year there will now be 'Spirit Christmas' shops, probably using some of the same locations of the Halloween shops.

I really dislike the 'Spirit Halloween' shops (I only went into them because I had to do the fire inspections). They were full of dark, gory displays including too loud shrieking noises. I'm guessing the 'Spirit Christmas' ones will be a bit more cheery.

Years ago I went to a Toys’R’Us at Greenback and Sunrise in Sacramento. Every single employee was a good-looking blonde, including the males.

Good-looking people actually do suffer prejudice. Once I was getting my car washed at an Egyptian Coptic parish in Roseville, CA, near where there was a munitions trainyard explosion in 1973. A stunningly beautiful girl with green eyes was washing my car; I closed my eyes so I couldn’t see her. She started waving her hands going “la, la, la!!!” at me as I tried to avoid looking at her.

I think the last thing I bought there was a watch battery. The guys were real nice about changing batteries for you. Mostly, Radio Shack fed my radio fetish. I’ve still got an old SW 100 multiband receiver. It doesn’t work well, but I can’t bring myself to pitch it. I like its old fashioned ‘knobby’ look.
