Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups has been charged in an alleged illegal poker scheme tied to organized crime, sources told the Post.
Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier was charged as well, in a separate but related illegal gambling case, ABC reported.
Prosecutors and FBI Director Kash Patel are announcing further details about the alleged schemes at a press conference in Brooklyn on Thursday morning.
LA Lakers, Toronto Raptors, Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers involved in sports-rigging scheme: US attorney By Patrick Reilly Four NBA teams have been named as having games involved in the FBI's sweeping investigation into illegal gambling.
The Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trial Blazers, Los Angeles Lakers and Toronto Raptors were all named in the indictment, Joseph Nocella Jr., the US attorney for the Eastern District of New York, told reporters.
The multimillion-dollar scheme, which took place between January 2022 and March 2024, allegedly involved sharing non-public information with bettors, including when players would be sitting out games or would pull themselves early from games.
The teams themselves are not implicated in wrongdoing, but players and coaches -- both current and former -- are accused of providing "non-public information" to help insiders make successful prop bets on NBA games.

THE MOB!
Is this an attempt to regulate sports betting markets like the stock market, complete with Insider Trading laws applied arbitrarily?
IMO, the weak link in protecting NBA games from gambling hanky panky is the referees.
The bet to be focused on is the over/under.
Since officials can call as many fouls as they like, it doesn’t take too many “extra” fouls to award enough free throws to put the game “over” the target point total.
I’d bet my house it’s rampant in the NFL as well.
Oh, when your multi-millions for running around bouncing a ball just isn’t enough to live on.

I clicked on the link, but got lost in the weeds.
The excerpt explains the NBA betting scheme. What was the poker scheme?
Blacks are easier to manipulate when it comes to doing the wrong thing. Entitled.
That’s why Pete Rose should never be in the HOF no matter how forgiving Tump is. Being forgiving of something like that is virtue signaling. Costs them nothing the next time it comes up.
Thanks for posting. Former Detroit Piston guard Chauncey Billups, AKA Mr. Big Shot.
With all due respect, you might want to do a little research on what’s going on here.
Among othercthings, players are manipulating their performance to make money.
Suggest you look up “proposition betting”....that’ll help you see what’s happening.
And the mafia is right in the middle of all of it.
Will admit this while I perform a hit and run post on my least favorite pro sport..
If the NBA was playing a game outside my house, I’d close the drapes...
If the FBI was talking about the NBA outside my house, I’d still close the drapes, but might open a window to hear if they caught owners, players, and/or referees.
SHocked!
Shocked, I tell you...

Agreed.
The view of the mob is that only dumb people bet on games they have not fixed.
It’s not just the over/under on point totals but Player Prop Bets as well.
These legalized sportsbooks offer a ton player propositional bets, things like how many assists a player has, how many rebounds a player gets, etc.
A referee calling a couple of quick fouls on a certain player can have a huge effect in the gambling world.
It would explain why the NFL took so long to put a team in Vegas. Imagine if there were no team there and every team was allowed to schedule a ‘home’ game there on a Sunday night. 3-4 day weekenders from all over the country would descend. Even more money.
Shoeless Joe Jackson and his teammates were white.
You've mentioned Pete Rose. He's white as well.
espn has it’s own sports book now and runs live odds on your screen. Gee. Who woulda thunk this could happen?
I know how what you said about blacks sounds, but I feel the same way.
Ever heard some of these black pro athletes interviewed?......some of ‘em can barely string together a coherent sentence......but they all have a college degrees......how does that work?
They were ushered through their universities because they can play a sport......again, it’s all about the mighty dollar.
A few months ago, Gilbert Arenas, former NBA player was arrested for running illegal poker games along with Jewish organized crime.
When he was arrested Arenas said he would not be going to jail, speculation is he has informed on everyone hoping to get a lighter sentence.
All very interesting, but I would prefer that the FIB use their limited resources to go after the real criminals, those who have subverted our government, stolen from taxpayers and abused conservatives over the last, say, 30 years.
