WASHINGTON — As the government shutdown barrels along, the impact on everyday Americans is growing.
It's creating additional stress on social service programs, which are now bracing for an increased need, including from people who don’t normally rely on their support.

About time.
More deportations will free up resources at food groups.
Leeches using another approach to leeching more.
It looks like the media ‘food bank’ narrative has been handed out.
Meh....
Fear porn
Maybe don't rely on the taxpayers to feed yourself and your kids!
"Delusional able-bodied man loses his EBT because he doesn’t want to work 20 hours a week to remain eligible. He claims the American taxpayer works to provide food for his family and he won’t work because he is a 'boss.'"
“If I don’t get the food stamps, I am going to Walmart, wreck it, and steal as much as I can. Watch me”
"This genius actually said that if you work at a grocery store and an EBT card doesn’t go through in November, and you report someone stealing, you “deserve to die.”
These immigrants’ children are trying to turn America into the very country their ancestors once fled from."
More appropriate way to help anyone who is truly hungry.
It should be done on the local level. Churches. Add a little religion to the process and the guilt of accepting charity sets in. When the government does the handing out the guilt disappears.
I volunteer at food bank every Saturday morning. on Friday mornings, I ride up to the warehouse where we get our food. The shelves are pretty empty at the warehouse. We always managed to come up with a full truckload but a lot of times it’s stuff that is just full of sugar and people shouldn’t be eating but it’s something in a full truckload for us is 12 pallets. We serve over 500 families a week.
those huge salaries and they don’t have any cash put away for a rainy day?
Honestly, I don’t see an end to the shutdown except to permanently close 90 percent of fed gov’t
How is it that Manna serves a significant federal workforce population already before the shutdown? Federal workers do not get paid poverty wages.
If only the democrats would allow the government to re-open.
One bag per household when usually we give two. We had two left when the last car came through so we give the last person two bags and he was so happy.
Everything else was gone. Cabbage, onion, milk, apples, none left.
The line was longer and included a bunch of new people.
