White House Reacts to Outrage Over East Wing Demolition for Trump Ballroom
Newsweek ^ | 10/21/25 | Jenni Fink

Posted on 10/22/2025 7:35:15 AM PDT by DallasBiff

Construction crews began dismantling the East Wing on Monday, even as the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) has not granted approval for the ballroom itself. According to NPR, NCPC chairman Will Scharf — who is also a Trump aide — said at a September meeting that the commission lacks jurisdiction over demolition or site preparation, only the “vertical build.”

At an East Room event with the Louisiana State University baseball team, Trump acknowledged the noise from the construction happening “right behind us,” and added, “They wanted a ballroom for 150 years, and I’m giving that honor to this wonderful place.”

I’m sure a DC judge will be found to issue an injunction to stop the demolition and order the wing restored to its previous condition.

Agreed. I was just there in May. One enters the WH for tour through the East Wing. Not a hovel, but I’d just call it nondescript. I did have the opportunity to pose next to the huge portrait of Hillary; my travel companion next to Mike Obama. So that was nice

You obviously discount the parts that hospitality and image play in politics and diplomacy. They play substantial roles.

Some of those look like load-bearing walls.

Is it just me, or are others turned off by bullet phrases such as “Why It Matters” and “What to Know”?

It sounds a bit condescending..

It was renovated for function and because it was worn out, not to create a Marie Antoinette ballroom where the rich and connected can celebrate each other.

Your TDS is showing, what is wrong with the white house being renovated, by private funds?

Without the Trump Hotel ballroom just steps away from the White House an adjacent Ballroom is a security necessity.

The Dims have become socially fixed dogmatists (dogmatic that their Leftist beliefs are proven givens no one can deny) that just like to complain about change and particularly change they did not think of.

My comment is that Democrat donors spent $294 million on a stupid Saturday event called no kings day. Trump is spending $250 million dollars on building a beautiful addition to the White House that will last for generations and be enjoyed by the world for many many years.

Truman moved into Blair House in the 1950s when the White House was gutted and rebuilt.

The reconstruction of the US Capitol has happened at least three times. Some vids.

The first moving meme I saw was here during the last Clinton year.
It was Billary moving out of the WH and she was flashing her coat open & closed revealing all the silverware she stole, heh
