There are no plans for President Trump to meet with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia in the immediate future, a White House official said Tuesday, a pivot after Mr. Trump suggested last week that he would meet his Russian counterpart soon in Budapest to discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine.
Mr. Trump said last week that he planned on meeting with Mr. Putin after senior American and Russian officials spoke. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov then had a “productive call,” the official said.
It is unclear whether Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin are still discussing meeting in Budapest in the more distant future. Mr. Trump was unclear about a date for the meeting but indicated it would happen soon after senior officials from each country spoke.
The White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, said after Mr. Trump’s call with Mr. Putin last week that the Russian leader had committed to sitting down with Mr. Trump. Foreign policy experts, however, expressed concern that Mr. Trump was falling into a familiar cycle when it came to his approach to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
On multiple occasions this year, Mr. Trump has come close to imposing more sanctions on Russia or giving powerful new military aid to Ukraine, only to speak with Mr. Putin and raise hopes for a diplomatic solution — so far with little to show for it.
Before his call with Mr. Putin, Mr. Trump suggested he was ready to provide Ukraine with long-range missiles. But he decided against the move, for now, after speaking to both Mr. Putin and President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine last week.

At some point, if he doesn't, he's going to own the mess Biden got us into.
That’s fine as long we stay out of this spat.
Even if he does, don’t eat any food or drink. Putin has poisoned his fair share of adversaries.
Totally agree.
Enough has been enough for a very long time.
Right, the way to deal with Putin is to hand Ukraine over to him. That will teach him!
Trump just put a UHV tracker on Putin’s nether sphincter.
I’d say Pooty is about to get whacked, whenever the occasion arises.
“Right, the way to deal with Putin is to hand Ukraine over to him. That will teach him!”
A Better option is for YouCrayne to go on offense and take ALL their land
back from Ruzzia.
I’m pretty sure there’s nothing to talk about.
Putin will have what he wants regardless of how many more people on both sides are slaughtered, and will continue until one of two things happen; he wins, or someone takes him out. Other than that, this war will drag on indefinitely.Trump the master deal maker is up against an implacable foe.
Looking back, it was kind of ridiculous saying he could solve it in a day.
“They’re dying, Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying. And I’ll have that done — I’ll have that done in 24 hours.”
Ukraine is going on the offensive, but deep behind the lines, dismantling Russia’s ability to keep up the fight.
Attacking Oil Refineries does not take land back.
A Military Needs Boots on the ground for that.
And those Boots on the ground have to get out
of defensive positions and go offense to take land back.
All that will happen after Russia is deprived of the ability to keep fighting. One step at a time.
As a consolation, he will pardon Diddy.
Zelensky has been firing Drones into Ruzzia for months.
No white flag seen from Ruzzia yet.
Ruzzia is winning the war of attrition.
It is just the beginning. Give it time. The Russian economy is starting to break down.
Ruzzia’s economy has been broken for 100 Years.
Russians have learned to live on very little of everything for decades.
It’s nothing new to them.
