On Friday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead,” Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) said that there is an expiration date for Obamacare subsidies “because that was all that we could get. But we’ve been arguing for a renewal of those tax credits for months. So, I don’t accept that particular Republican talking point” that the expiration date Democrats put into place is a Democratic policy.

My wife and I were happily paying $380 a month total for our health insurance. There was a $1000 deductible and total out of pocket capped at $3000 per year.
We are small business owners, so it all comes out of our pocket.
Then came Obamacare. Our policy was cancelled. They told us to use the portal to select our new plan. We kept trying, but it would hang up.
Our friend sat on the state board overseeing the implementation of the ACA, so she came by to show us how it is done. She couldn’t get it to work either. She made some phone calls and was told that our income was so low we only qualified for Medicaid. So we went on Medicaid against our will.
Over the years our income crept up to the point where we no longer qualify for Medicaid, but we are heavily subsidized. Our insurance currently costs us $65 a month with a total annual out of pocket capped at $2000.
I have been told that should the ACA extension not happen, we will go from $65 a month to $1800 a month. I don’t know if this is just scare tactics or the truth.
Needless to say one part of me wants the Rs to hold the line, but I have serious trepidation as to what will happen if they get their way.
