Don’t the Republicans have at least 51 Senate votes to pass something they like, using the nuclear option to quask a 60-vore filibuster? If so, why the holdup?

No, make the dems come to the table. And slash and burn the federal excess in the meantime.

Either way, they lose.

I guess because it “sets a bad precedent”. Though I suppose if it got bad enough the republicans would just do it eventually.
My guess is that the shutdown hasn’t had any impact on polling so they aren’t in much of a rush to open back up.
