Wirt (not to be confused with the early 19th century William Wirt) began as a progressive but came to oppose FDR. There was some truth in what he said, but he claimed to have actually uncovered a real conspiracy at work, when it’s very unlikely that he had. His supposed sources denied telling him what he claimed they did. Also, after WWII the common man was riding high and not put back into the feudal society of the Dark Ages. Whatever’s been going on lately, his prediction did not come true for years to come.
St FDR of Marx failed to get the universal disarmament he so craved.
Thank you X. This _is_ actually “my thing”.
Unfortunately, I do not know nearly as much about the New Deal era as I do the Progressive Era given that nearly everything that can be originally sourced is behind a firewall of copyright. (Unless you get lucky and accidentally find something that is out of copyright)
I have been wanting for a while to begin a new audio book over at LibriVox from one of Rexford Tugwell’s written works since he has 2 that are prior to the public domain line. Just haven’t gotten there yet.
We’re about 5 years away from the first few years of the New Deal(32-35) entering the public domain. We have a lot to learn.
