Ace Frehley, KISS lead guitarist, dies at 74

Ace Frehley, the original lead guitarist for the rock band KISS, has died. He was 74.

Frehley reportedly suffered a brain bleed when he fell in his studio a couple weeks ago, according to TMZ. The family said he died "peacefully surrounded by family in Morristown, New Jersey" Thursday.

Frehley went to the hospital after a “minor” fall at the end of September and was advised by his doctor “against his wishes” to avoid travel, according to a post on his social media Sept. 25.

It prompted him to cancel his performance set for the following day at the Antelope Valley Fair in Lancaster, California.

A week later, he canceled his remaining 2025 tour dates citing “ongoing medical issues.” He was set to perform in Illinois, Missouri, Mississippi and Ohio with “more tour dates always being announced.”

Frehley was the lead guitarist and co-founder of the rock, glam metal band KISS alongside singer Paul Stanley, bassist and part-time singer Gene Simmons and drummer Peter Criss. The band stopped touring as a group in 2023.

The band broke into the limelight after releasing four albums, “Kiss,” “Hotter Than Hell,” “Dressed to Kill,” and live album “Alive!” between 1974 and 1975.

They gained a large following and released hits like “Rock And Roll All Nite,” “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” and “Detroit Rock City” among many others across dozens of albums. The group was also known for its intense stage shows, which included fireworks, smoke and eruptions of fake blood performed by band members in black-and-white painted faces, platform boots and black wigs.

“at least 6 miles everyday, and the husband rides 20 miles on his bike after that!”

Wow, and I thought I was doing good! I’m not in that class. He’s in a league of his own!

I do a lot of hill work and log everything. I’ve climbed 50,000 feet the past year across 350 miles.

He’s a beast for 86! I don’t ride bikes, but that sounds pretty good to me. I only walk 3+ miles every day, and my feet hurt plenty! Up and down stairs, too. I’ve averaged 20 floors a day this week (ok, that’s not my usual - my year.y average is 12 floors a day).

I remember in the 1980s Christian conservatives, like Jerry Falwell and Jimmy Swaggart, cited KISS and similar bands as examples of demonic influence in rock music.

Now Trump is honoring KISS.

Just goes to show, whatever one generation of conservatives condemn (Social Security, Martin Luther King, rock & roll, gay marriage), a later generation of conservatives will celebrate.

Sometimes true, but not always and in everything. I can't think of any true Conservative "celebrating" gay marriage, for example.

Yearly average of 12 floors a day is 43,800 vertical feet per year! Very good! That’s close to what I’m hitting.

Thanks for the recommendation — I just wrote to my hematologist for thoughts and advice.

Ah yes...I'd forgotten the mothers up in arms, burning their kids' record albums. They said "KISS" was an acronym for 'Knights In Satan's Service'. Al Gore's ex-wife Tipper was big on that sort of thing.

PMRC

Fake conservative telecultists lying for money and democrats playing a fake social conservative angle to get more control of the First Amendment.

Just like the Satanic Panic was just an attempt to get conservative to give the libs control.

Bring up flags and some on our side will still fall for it every time.

When you reach a certain age, it’s time to get a cane. Put your ego aside, and get a cane.

Or pretend you are younger/”hipper” and get a pair of “Trekking Poles/”Hiking Staffs”:

I’ve seen liberals posting celebrations for the death of another “ Trumpkin”.

Real nice people.

Your hematologist could fill you in on the risks ..but my sister had a spontaneous bleed deep in the brain...was on anti-platelets...she was alone...no bruises so probably didn’t fall....

Damn third bout of COVID caused multiple pulmonary embolisms in my right lung! Triggered two other autoimmune problems, too, but they are trivial compared to blood clots. Doc reduced the anticoagulant by half at the one-year mark, but I’m probably on it the rest of my days. Damn COVID is nothing to sneeze at!

My hematologist does not seem very worried about bleeding risk. I’ve noticed slight cuts (shaving, kitchen knife, etc) do take longer to clot than before). She advised being careful about falls and hitting my head. I stick to well-marked trails, generally fairly smooth, no serious rock scrambling or climbing. I have good mountain boots, good Vibram soles, and use hiking poles for stability.

look into/eat to lessen your body’s inflammation. excess inflammation (stress and so many of our “foods” today) causes irritation to our tissues including veins etc. that includes through the brain, heart etc. prolonged inflammation even in thin people, leads to clots, heart episodes, diabetes, cancers, etc.

cut or drastically reduce any crap food. so much unnecessary health issues due to our body eating so much processed foods it wasn’t made to handle.

we aren’t garbage disposals, we are finely designed works of art by God. Unfortunately too many people eat like trash compactors and over time, full up of chemical imbalances or weakened parts due to corrosion by toxins we took in.

Animals have instinct to avoid many foods we eat!

if you are already eating primarily whole natural foods, then disregard :)
