Former Red Hot Chili Peppers Guitarist Launches GoFundMe to Stop Him Becoming Homeless

Arik Marshall, a former guitarist with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, has launched a GoFundMe to prevent him from homelessness.

Marshall, who also served as Macy Gray’s guitarist, was a member of the rock legends for a brief period between 1992 and 1993 during their tour in support of their mainstream breakthrough album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

Guitarist John Frusciante departed the group for the first time partway through the tour, which led to Marshall filling in. However, he didn’t contribute to a studio album, and Dave Navarro took over following the conclusion of the tour.

Now, a GoFundMe page has been set up for him by Gisette Hildago, which states that he “is facing eviction & possible homelessness”.

The page explains, “His employer (and best friend), whom Arik had worked with on both musical and cinematic endeavors for close to 14 years, was tragically killed by the LAPD. The loss left Arik without his best friend and without his primary source of employment/income.”

It then explains how the Covid-19 pandemic had negatively impacted Marshall, who has also been “diagnosed with a serious health condition which left him with a weakened immune system”.

The statement continues, “All of this triggered a bad period of depression and several years of reclusiveness. Arik struggled to find consistent work and fell deeper in debt to his landlord.”

The GoFundMe is attempting to raise $20,000 for the guitarist, which it says will help Marshall “resolve his debt to his landlord and avoid living on the streets”.

In a positive health update, the message adds, “Arik has been focusing on his overall health and he is doing much better. He is consistently looking for steady work and he is also available for guitar lessons.”

The page was initially set up in July, and in a new update by Hildago on GoFundMe on October 9th, she shared, “The Los Angeles Court has given Arik until March 15th 2025 to pay $6,000 and the remainder of the $20K by December.”

Hildago concluded by stating they are currently working on the details of a fundraiser show to help raise money for Marshall.

As of writing, the GoFundMe has raised $3,947 of its $20,000 target. Visit here to donate.

That's mighty thin gruel on which to base a "Go Fund Me" campaign.

What do you mean by that?

Go Fund Me and similar have been used for all kinds of personal setbacks; even by people here on FR.

I’ve never seen a Freeper do it, but there are some crazy GoFundMe’s. I don’t think I’d have the nerve to do it, even if the situation was dire.

Her boyfriend is 29 does that count?

And one of her sons was pretending to be homeless a couple years ago.

You don’t know what you’ll wind up doing when disaster strikes and you feel desperate for aid.

How many millions did they blow through, so to speak?

Here’s what people don’t realize: the songwriter, who own the publishing rights. He didn’t have those. He was only with the band for less than two years, all on tour. He didn’t make an album with them. He was probably a contractor, not even a member of the band. I bet he never made a lot of money from that. I doubt he ever made six figures in a year, but I could be wrong.

I don’t know anything about them. I haven’t followed popular music since the 1970s.

But are you suggesting that people who may have made mistakes in life are unworthy of mercy and human kindness?)

Being a hired gun is a hard life, they dont pay much.

heard a story from a guitarist who was painting houses for a living, he was painting a big rock stars house and recognized him and said " hey weren't you guys at monsters of rock in Germany last year?" He answered " yep" so what are you doing now? , what's it look like, im painting houses.

very few make it big. And being a fill in gets you $200 a show.

I do.

I’m there, now.

I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.

Why can’t he get a J.O.B.? Or will he only accept work as a guitarist?

He’s been ill; but he’s offering his services as a guitar teacher. People tend to work at what they know.

I met a former songwriter about 25 years ago. He was acting as a guide for hunts on a Texas ranch. He said he gave up songwriting after working at if for years, and only having one hit. He said having the hit only meant he slept in a better grade of car.

It is a tough way to make a living. He was a good guide on the Texas ranch.

“You don’t know what you’ll wind up doing when disaster strikes and you feel desperate for aid.”

I wonder if you park your arse outside of a church or homeless center if that would work?

The beggers around here are seen at intersections and later at convenience stores working the scratch-off ticket investment strategy.

That’s very different from a ‘go fund me’ type of thing where nobody is personally confronted.
