Amid H-1B tensions, two Indian-origin executives, Srinivas Gopalan and Rahul Goyal, rise to top US leadership roles, defying Make America Great Again (MAGA) hardliners and reshaping America's corporate landscape.
At a time when the Donald Trump-led US administration is tightening H-1B visa rules, two major American companies on Monday bucked the trend by promoting India-born leaders to top positions.
T-Mobile, the US telecom giant, will see Srinivas “Srini” Gopalan, 55, step into the CEO role on November 1. Gopalan, an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad, currently serves as T-Mobile’s Chief Operating Officer and will succeed Mike Sievert, who has led the company since 2020 and moves to the newly created position of vice chairman.

Meanwhile, Chicago-based beverage giant Molson Coors named Rahul Goyal, 49, as its new president and CEO, effective October 1. Goyal, who succeeds Gavin Hattersley (remaining in an advisory role through the end of the year), has been with the company for 24 years.
A native of India, he studied engineering in Mysore before moving to the US for business studies in Denver, and has worked across Coors and Molson brands in the US, UK, and India.

I had T-Mobile. It was poorly run and quite predatory. We had to use legal counsel in order to close our our account without theft.
My last post about something similar happening: Hey, give these big greedy companies a break. They can hire technical people from India at probably half of what they would have to pay American technical people. Of course the profit the CEOs and upper corporation officers reap from that will be passed on to Americans.
Good question.
“And just like that, there were no Ukraine posts any more.”
LOL
It’s not worth the flame war, but you’ve obviously never been in a big company or worked with Indians.
Seriously think those guys were the “best and the brightest”?
Really?
No one else on Planet Erf and especially in the US?
Hilarious
About 10 years ago, I did some contract work for Citigroup in Las Colinas. It was catch up work related to property taxes. I enjoyed it, we had a great group of people working together.
There was another project on the same floor with nothing but H-1Bs. I started going to restrooms on other floors after encountering multiple Indians bathing themselves in the sinks. It was nearly vomit inducing.
Un-shocked...
My immediate reaction was "Dude, I'm 70 years old...I don't do tests anymore!"
He was fired after he was discovered interviewing for another job on a Teams chat. Everyone heard it. OMG it was hilarious.
He also had a phobia about elevators. I escorted him on the flight down to the parking garage...all 3 floors down!
its a race to see who wins the indians or the muslims...
america loses etiher way.
Not a surprise.
“Indians have low IQs, but not as low as Ukrainians.”
Yes, the average IQ in India is quite low, but most Indians that have come here are from the upper castes (brahmins), whose AVERAGE IQ is around 103 and that explain why they’ve been so successful here.
It also explains why Indians are seen as arrogant. In India the upper castes are quite derisive of those below them.
Yep…now it’s a bunch of daily India threads.
I’ve been against H-1B abuse for years and am very glad the administration is addressing that, but do we really need all of these daily India posts?
Smells kind of spammy to me.
We're ALL against H-1B abuse - this is an attempt to get Free Republic branded as a hater's website.
Dude's the most clever troll I've seen on Free Republic in nearly 29 years.
Not clever, just really lucky the website owners haven’t clamped down on him for some mysterious reason.
"We're ALL against H-1B abuse"
“In India the upper castes are quite derisive of those below them.”
That doesn’t stop when they leave India; the arrogant caste derisive attitude remains alive and well when they arrive here. I’ve had a couple of run-ins, and have educated them.
Time to boycott T-Mobile and Coors. Let them die on the vine.
Pure Talk works for me, 2 lines just over 50 bucks, and they are the “good guys”. Boycott T mobile, and Coors sucks as a beer.
A country with an open caste system, is not a proper partner for a Free Republic. That country needs to have a cull. China has gotten it, their population is heading down. India and China are overpopulated, not the US. Unless of course we allow the hordes in.
I'm not one of them.
