4,000 federal workers fired due to ongoing government shutdown

The Trump administration revealed in a court filing that more than 4,000 federal workers were fired Friday as a result of the ongoing partial government shutdown.

The mass layoffs will affect government workers in at least seven Cabinet-level agencies, according to the document filed in the District Court for the Northern District of California, where federal employee labor unions are suing to stop the Trump administration from downsizing amid the lapse in federal funding.

The bulk of the layoffs took place at the Treasury Department and the Department of Health and Human Services, where approximately 1,446 employees and up to 1,200, respectively, were axed.

The Department of Education fired 466 employees; the Department of Housing and Urban Development let go of 442 employees; the Department of Commerce terminated 315 employees; the Department of Energy cut 187 employees; and the Department of Homeland Security laid off 176 employees.

The Justice Department filing notes that other agencies have issued “a general ‘intent to RIF’ notice.”

The Environmental Protection Agency, for example, notified approximately 20-30 employees that they may be fired in the future.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office separately issued shutdown-related RIF notices to 126 employees on Oct. 1.

“these must be the “unessentialest” of the unessential”

Possibly political activists that otherwise could not be canned.

That is a drop in the bucket.

Many government employees work very hard. The problem is that they are absolutely nothing that benefits society or Taxpayers in any way. I hope they enjoy learning how to not be parasitic on society. Also, it would be nice if they lost their self-importance and arrogance.

So sad.

(More popcorn!!!)

Maybe do 4,000 per day until the democrats relent and fund the gov’t. Hopefully they let it go for several weeks though.

In 2021 I was forced to choose jab or job because of an executive order, and the threat of OSHA fines. I have the same amount of sympathy for these people that they would’ve had for me. 4000 isn’t enough.

4000 out of 2,000,000?
= 4000 x 100 / 2,000,000
= 4/20 = o.2%
Insignificant!

We obviously have way too many federal employees. Reducing the number of such is a good thing. The only problem is that, when you have mass firings like this (which is in most respect a good and necessary thing), a few of the important and needful aspects get swept up in the process. A small percentage of those fired will probably be reinstated once there is a chance to look at it with a finer brush. For example, my guess is that there will probably be some leaner form of the EIS program (Epidemic Intelligence Service) reinstated. I think that it was dissolved in its entirety, which really isn’t a good thing. However, there is still a lot of fat needing to be cut across the government landscape, and more is needed.

Over a hundred thousand have already been fired or taken the offer to leave in return for salary payments for a few months.
If shutdown continues even more will be fired.
Let’s hope Democrats continue the shutdown.

.these must be the “unessentialest” of the unessential....

Makes me wonder as to how these are selected, and if there are criteria that 'keep the RIF' away, or if this sort of thing is useful for getting rid of 'protected' dullards and deadwood?

Yes, most federal workers don’t produce anything useful in market place. Except for military, traffic control, and law enforcement, the rest hinder hard working American by creating myriad of regulations.

Throw the DEA on to the trash heap too.

Border Patrol could assume those duties.

The DEA is corrupt as well, just like Homeland, since you support that , you are a fan of the deep state , eh ?

That is nothing.

There are about 3 million federal workers and officials.

To get a constitutionally limited federal gov’t and recovery of our Free Constitutional Republic, the 80%+ unconstitutional portion of the federal gov’t must be dismantled.

That means approx. 2.5 million federal workers and officials WHO YOU ARE PAYING, must be fired.

Too bad for them but GREAT for America and the average American. The economy would boom like never before, the average American would be more prosperous than ever, and those poor ex-federal workers would have more job opportunities than they could handle.

May it happen, Lord, I pray.

What I find interesting to contemplate is how this will change DC. Some employees are in other States but I am sure the bulk are DC residences. In DC the majority of jobs are with government. With little prospect for employment in the DC area will there be an exodus from the city?

Next phase should involve moving Departments out of DC. There will be a lot of resignations.

I guess that it’s too much to ask for to fire some Democrat congressmen and two or three Supreme Court justices.
