Many experts are forecasting the end of a key provision of election law — enabling Republicans to shore up their advantage in the House, according to a new report.
Democratic voting rights groups are preparing for a nightmare scenario if the Supreme Court guts a key part of the landmark civil rights-era legislation, the Voting Rights Act — a very real possibility this term.
Ahead of the court’s Oct. 15 rehearing of Louisiana v. Callais — a case that has major implications for the VRA — two voting rights groups are sounding the alarm, warning that eliminating Section 2, a provision that prohibits racial gerrymandering when it dilutes minority voting power, would let Republicans redraw up to 19 House seats to favor the party and crush minority representation in Congress.

And being cornered is when they will be even more dangerous.
Senate could easily get rid of the filibuster and the shutdown could end tomorrow.

It’s their own rule so they can change it, but will they? Perhaps, when the pain gets high enough. 60 votes in the Senate looks like a tall order under the present climate.
Amazing what forcing a fair vote can do.
> Senate could easily get rid of the filibuster and the shutdown could end tomorrow.<
I’m starting to lean that way. The filibuster made perfect sense at the founding of the Republic. States needed to have a say. Of course, senators were appointed by state legislators at the founding. This added another layer against mob rule.
The 17th Amendment killed that idea. Without it, it is likely that there would be 62 gop senators right now.

I’ve been hearing this for a lifetime and as noble as it is in virtue, it’s simply just not true.
The left has codified racial division as part of their platform, character and creed. Repeating this cycle of pitting race against race is a hallmark of Democrat politics for as long as you, me, our parents and grandparents have been around. Nothing has changed - the Democrat playbook is as old as slavery itself. Until that changes, we (as a nation) will never be “color-blind”. My opinion only. ;-)
When I hear the word, ‘Filibuster:’
“John* you’re a bore, we’ve heard this before! For God’s Sake, John! Sit Down!” (’1776’)
*Adams
Screw it. Let’s do it. They’ve been doing it for years and as soon as they get any power back, they’ll nuke the filibuster in the Senate to pass whatever they want.
Drawing more conservative districts is protecting the republic.
Repeal the 17th Amendment. If we start there, everything else becomes easier.
True. I know why they don’t want to change it. They fear if democrats get the senate someday, the country is over. But with the filibuster, it impede a lot of what Trump wants to get done.
Get rid of caucuses by race! We are past that point in history. It’s now counter productive.
I confess to bewilderment over the idea that eliminating “minority majority” districts helps Republicans. I thought the theory was that creating “all minority” districts inherently gerrymandered in favor of Republicans by concentrating Democrat votes such that they could not affect the typical district but created a few hyper-safe Democrat seats while Republicans had more winnable seats than the Democrats had.
They also need to eliminate counting illegals for house seats and electorals! California would lose 12 of their illegitimate house reps......that’s as many as Iowa plus SC wiped out by illegals in Cali.
Democrats don’t like it when their own tactics are used against them.
They want everything to favor them and if it favors anyone else, “It’s not faaaiiirrrr......”
Let’s hope so.
That would be nice if Dems played fair. They don’t. Fight fire with fire.
Thanks for posting the video of Senator Kennedy!!
Great video.
Thanks for posting.
If only we had more senators like him.
Blacks and whites voting together in the same district for the same slate of candidates?! Why, next the coloreds will be wanting to get served at the same lunch counter!/sarc
