Two years after the outbreak of the war against the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Israeli authorities have released a new overall toll of military and civilian casualties. According to Channel 12, the Ministry of Defense, the National Insurance Institute, and the Eran (Emergency Psychological Assistance) association have released "unprecedented numbers" of victims, injuries, and people suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Since the conflict began on October 7, 2023, 1.152 Israeli military and security forces personnel have died, 42 percent of whom were under the age of 21. The victims include 1.035 members of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), 100 police officers, nine Shin Bet members, and eight members of Shabas (the prison service). According to the report, over 6.500 people have joined the "family of national mourning," including nearly 2.000 parents, 351 widows, and 885 orphans.
On the civilian front, the National Insurance Institute reports 978 Israeli citizens killed in attacks and bombings since the start of the war, including 62 minors. Furthermore, 80 people are recognized as victims of "acts of hostility," most of whom (over 30) suffered psychological trauma. The conflict has also had serious mental and social repercussions. The Eran association reports receiving 637 requests for help in two years, with a sharp increase in cases related to depression, anxiety, isolation, and relationship problems. "Almost one in two calls concerns post-traumatic stress disorder or direct bereavement," the organization stated. Over 120 military personnel and reservists reportedly turned to psychological support services for "loneliness and acute stress."
Channel 12 reports that, overall, the government has paid over 1,7 billion shekels (approximately €420 million) in compensation and benefits for the families of victims and civilians affected by physical or psychological trauma.

And I heard the Israelis have a body count of Palis in the low 6 figures. Start a war and find out rag heads.
Probably the equivalent of the American casualties in the Korean War.
Note: About 15% of Israelis identify themselves as religious Zionist (’dati’).
...A disproportionately high percentage of religious Zionist soldiers are represented in combat units. That fact, combined with their high motivation on the battlefield, has resulted in inordinately high numbers of religious Zionist soldiers who have been killed or wounded in action.
Channel 12’s political commentator Amit Segal, himself a religious Zionist, estimated on air last week that over 60% of the IDF soldiers killed in October were religious Zionists...
The reason Israeli casualties are high is because of their humane tactics. Their tactics were to kill as few innocents as possible. These tactics caused greater danger to their soldiers.
For example, Hamas would fight from buildings filled with civilians and hospitals and mosques. Israel could have easily leveled those buildings from the air or with artillery. They did not. Soldiers on foot, in tanks, and mechanized carriers went in to kill the Hamas terrorists, and many lost their lives.
Perhaps I am wrong. Israel should have announced, “civilians embedded with Hamas will be given no quarter. Get away from Hamas or you will probably die.”
“CRY HAVOC AND LET SLIP THE DOGS OF WAR.”
“Probably the equivalent of the American casualties in the Korean War.”
By my calculations the Israelis have suffered the U.S. equivalent of 41,800 dead soldiers (based on population comparison).
I forgot to add this: In WWII the Brits burned German Cities to the ground with their night raids. Some of it was strategic but most was for terror. The destroyed dams and unleashed floods on Germany and much death. Some of it was strategic but most was for terror. It worked! The Brits were somewhat irritatted with the bombing of London and her other great cities. We smoked Nagasaki and Hiroshima with nukes. Some of it was strategic but most was for terror. It worked!
War is ugly dirty business to be avoided if possible. “Jaw Jaw Jaw is better than war war war.” Winston Churchill. If it can not be avoided, go Genghis Khan on the enemy. It works. Churchill and the Allies went Genghis Khan on our enemies, it works.
The best war is the one that does not happen because your enemy fears you.
Around 36,500 for USA during the Korean War.
As I like to say, there is absolutely nothing to be sorry about regarding Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Besides the many American deaths and injuries avoided, we literally saved millions of Japanese lives, and millions of Chinese and other occupied territories lives (Korean in particular) as well, by dropping those bombs and forcing surrender, vs. invading Japan.
Anyone who thinks otherwise is completely ignorant about the history of the era, and needs to sit down and shut up until they fix their ignorance and can discuss the issue from a position of knowledge.
Amen!
RIP
Do not forget the Druze. They are a Muslim Sect but not insane. Many serve in the Israeli army and are fierce and loyal soldiers. Their religious philosophy is much closer to Israels Hebrew philosophy than classic Mohammedanism. Some are even Generals in the IDF. They are good guys and loyal to their nation of Israel.
That is indeed sobering and heart wrenching. 😔 Prayers for all the families and lives forever impacted.
US population roughly 300 million. Israeli population 10 million. 30:1 ratio. Equivalent US losses would be 30x greater than the Israeli numbers. Puts the loss in perspective.
Indeed. It humanizes the conflict. Puts all the headline & hoopla into perspective. Very young precious lives have been lost. 😢
Freedom costs sweat, money, and blood. Or you can save all three like Europe!
There shouldn’t have been one. That city should have been vaporized and turned to dust without a boot on the ground. Hamas will attack again. A homicide bomber will blow up a cafe. The only thing they would understand is a true victory where they never have the will to fight again. It is how peace is achieved.
Victor Davis Hanson has a couple of shorts on YouTube discussing this. He indicates that we had 2,000 additional B-29s that would have been delivered by the end of 1945, and several thousand other 4-engine bombers laying idle on airfields in England. Curtis LeMay had plans to up our bombing raids from 4 or 5 per week to 2 per day. He would have burned down every city in Japan within six months, and probably killed at least 2 million Japanese. That’s without blockading Japan from all food and energy imports, and before an invasion.
The atomic bombings were horrible - but worse could have been done, MUCH worse.
Most people who go on about “the evil A-bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki” have no clue whatsoever about LeMay’s bombardment campaign, and how much more effective it was about to be due to A) much closer basing on Okinawa and B) more aircraft with massive B-29 production and the relocation of the 8th Air Force, 15th Air Force and similar British units from Europe.
As a side note - the only armaments development effort bigger/more expensive than the Manhattan Project was the one that resulted in the B-29! Building a bomber big enough to deliver a useful bomb load across Pacific distances was non-trivial.
You have definitely been watching VDH videos. He teaches what schools and universities won’t - including about this very topic.
