RIDGEFIELD, Conn. (WFSB) - A Ridgefield woman is facing charges for attempted murder after allegedly poisoning a man she shares a child with.

“I think it’s atrocious that anybody would attempt to murder anybody else,” said Susan Donnell of South Salem.

State police began an attempted murder investigation after a patient at a Connecticut hospital was thought to be suffering from ethylene glycol poisoning. Ethylene Glycol is the main ingredient found in antifreeze.

The 34-year-old victim told police he believed 33-year-old Kristen Hogan had poisoned him.

He told troopers he had had a dinner party on Aug. 5th with family. At the end of the night, he corked the remaining wine in a bottle and put in in the fridge.

On Aug. 7th, the victim arrived at court in response to a complaint filed by Hogan, but she never showed up.

While he was waiting for her to arrive, he got an alert on his phone that Hogan’s cell phone was uploading data to the Wi-Fi router in his home. When he returned home, Hogan was not there.

On Aug. 10, the victim told police he drank some of the leftover wine in the fridge. After that, he became increasingly sick until he was hospitalized under the suspicion he was having a stroke.

A doctor recognized the victims symptoms as a result of ethylene glycol poising. Later testing would prove ethylene glycol was in the wine.

The victim had to be placed on dialysis and admitted into the ICU.

The victim told police he believed Hogan poisoned the bottle of wine on Aug. 7th while he waited for her to arrive at court. He told police he believed Hogan wanted him dead so she could have full custody of their child.

“That is tragic. That is really, really tragic. That’s too bad,” said Kevin Elston of Ridgefield.

A search of Hogan’s phone found she’d searched things like “how much monoethylene glycol would kill you” and “penalty for not appearing for court hearing on your own motion”.

“I know that domestic violence happens in every community, so I guess there’s a part of me that’s not surprised. Again, I’m appalled that somebody would do that,” said Donnell. “It just seems like that would be a cruel way to go.”

An arrest warrant reveals there were also times their child was inexplicably sick and hospitalized.

Hogan denied poisoning their child when questioned by police. She did tell troopers she poisoned the victim, but never intended to kill him.

“It’s really sad. People need to talk out their situations and their disagreements rather than taking it to something like that,” said Patrice Gillespie of Ridgefield.

She was arrested on Oct. 3rd and charged with two counts of criminal attempt at murder. She was held on a $1,000,000 bond.

Hogan has retained Connecticut criminal defense lawyers Mark Sherman and Ryan O’Neill from Mark Sherman Law.

When reached for comment, Sherman said “it is premature to comment on any specifics. What we know is that Kristen is a loving mother who misses her children dearly right now. These are just accusations and we will be diligently investigating and defending her against these claims.”

She is due back in court on Oct. 9.

Ethylene glycol poising is usually a horrible death.

By odd coincidence, I was working out a murder-mystery with glycol as the poison. Interestingly, a corresponding amount of hard spirits can serve as an antidote.

Kidneys don’t regenerate. If someone did that to me, I’d refuse to aid the police and seek a non judicious remedy, one that was slow.

Pete second paragraph, who the hell is Susan Donnell? Did they interview some rando to ask her if order is bad? Seems like some poor editing here
