I bought a Tesla 2 months ago, still learning new things about it. I didn’t do it “for the environment”. Strictly a transportation issue. I get the, uh, impression that more of us here than not are not a fan so I thought I’d throw out my admittedly brief personal experience if anyone here is curious.
My son is leasing one. He likes it. If it fails, it goes back to the dealer.
NOTHING should be subsidized. If a product can’t make it in a free market… tough. Let it die.
I’m all for small scale site specific alternative energy. It’s the industrial subsidized alternative energy that doesn’t come close to living up to the promises while elbowing aside much needed base load generation that I hate.
The model Y is very popular.
It has a cool camping option.
Not sure which model you bought, but I had a first-gen Model S and now have a 2019 Model 3. They are excellent cars, IMHO.

I agree. Subsidizing is straight-up a communist move — and China has turned it into a global weapon.
The ugly truth though, is that China doesn’t just compete; it cheats. They steal intellectual property, copy our inventions, then flood the world with dirt-cheap, government-subsidized versions. They dump those products everywhere, crushing unsubsidized competitors and warping global markets. It’s not trade — it’s economic warfare dressed as business.
And somehow, we keep letting them get away with it. We let China’s TikTok run wild here — an app their own citizens aren’t even allowed to touch in the same form. We let Nvidia and AMD hand over advanced chip tech for short-term profit, as if feeding the beast will make it friendlier.
Meanwhile, China blocks Google, Facebook, WhatsApp, and every major Western platform. But we let them shove their state-linked TikTok app right down our throats and call it “free market exchange.”
We’re not losing because China’s smarter. We’re losing because we’ve stopped defending our own interests. They play hardball. We play nice. And that’s why they keep winning.
The only thing that could save us. Anti-China tariffs. But they only got 10% of new tariffs. Hopefully this will change soon. If not, we have lost the trade war.
Not curious in the least. But if you're interested, my gold fish died a month ago......
“???”

New or used?
Make sure you know how to get out of it.
Yes, I did. But only to share the sorrow of losing my goldfish. Which gave more information than "I Bought a Tesla". LOL!
Now is probably a good time to buy as used EV, if I read the reports correctly. Nothing wrong, per se, if it makes economic sense for you. I used to listen to former CA Congressman John Campbell on Hugh Hewitt’s show. He owned car dealerships before entering politics, and is still a total gear head. He owns a Tesla, a Mach E, and a Fisker. He likes driving them because he loves cars. Fine. Personally you couldn’t pay me to own one.
My daughter bought one and I poo pooed it, she got a Y and was able to drive to Austin and then back to El Paso family of five, no problems. So I thought I might at least look in to it, needed to down size from my pick up. Went for a test drive They had us do a FUll Self Driving by ourselves no salesman with us, we got in the car and he said just tap the break pedal and it will drive you to the parking lot of a Bank about 4 miles away. It’s was amazing. Signed the paperwork that day. We love it.
I don't understand this phraseology. Are you saying you're going to throw out your own experience, as in disregard your own experience? Or do you mean you're going to throw your personal experience into the public sphere for others to learn from your knowledge? Because, if it's the latter, you didn't throw out any personal experience.
Yeah, that’s what it is.
I think he said it was over $70k.
It was supposed to be a radical design. And it achieves that. I’m lukewarm on it. I appreciate the effort to be unique, at least.
You forgot about the Pontiac Aztec. Ugliest car ever.
Good for you.
I got three months of the full self driving, (supervised) as they say, gratis when I bought it by using their referral system. I have loved it, but it isn’t perfect.at least not yet. I think I will subscribe to it when the three months runs out. It is $99 a month or $8k for the life of the car. Occasionally Tesla has allowed people to keep the FSD if they buy a new car.
I definitely would not accept a Tesla as a rental if I’d never driven one before. There is a learning curve even just to cover the basics you’d need in a rental situation. It isn’t rocket science, but I wouldn’t want to be in a position of learning in a short term rental situation.
Didn’t know you had to pay extra for that. I would find it useful but a bit unnerving.
