Why would government records on Amelia be classified?
Especially at this point in time?

Probably the search records were classified because we were aware that Japan's open aggression was going to become a problem at some point.

Lots of things were happening in the South Pacific that were classified by just about every government involved.

And things remain classified until there is a reason to remove that classification.

Probably due to the submarine use and prior “SEAL” type teams used to infiltrate the islands.

That was my question when I read about them being released. Unless she was on some government mission in 1937. The FBI was around, but the CIA wasn't.
