A SIKH GRANDMOTHER who had lived in the U.S. for more than 30 years has been deported to New Delhi, India, after spending a week in what her attorney called “barbaric” conditions at a private ICE detention center in Georgia.
“There was no rationale to detain Bibi Harjit Kaur,” Deepak Ahluwalia, Kaur’s attorney, told American Community Media in a Sept. 24 interview. “It’s all part of their effort to fill beds.”
“Her detention was nothing short of barbaric,” said Ahluwalia. “That type of treatment would affect most people. They chose to do this to a 73-year-old woman with disabilities and health issues.”
The elderly woman was initially taken to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in Bakersfield and then transferred to the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia. Neither her family nor Ahluwalia was informed of the transfer.

No water, harsh conditions
Kaur was not given water to take her medications, according to Ahluwalia. When she asked for water, she was given a plate of ice instead, which she could not chew because of her dentures. In Lumpkin, Kaur was forced to sleep on the floor in a crowded detention facility; she could not easily get up from the floor, as she had surgery on both knees. The strict vegetarian got only meat-based meals for her first six days in detention. She was handcuffed numerous times during transfers.

She was hiding out in San Francisco. They love illegals there.
Gee, I wonder if there is a little bit more to this story than what this silly article is bothering to tell people.
There’s always more to the story.
Whew-
Thank goodness it’s all over over now, and this “grandmother” is now back in India where conditions will be so much better.
She probably never worked except as a babysitter to the grandkids and cooking but I’ll bet was getting Medicare and SS at 73. The Chinese, Koreans and Indians in my neighborhood bring their parents over and do that as well as get them into subsidized senior housing. Hopefully the party’s over very soon.
She probably fainted on her way out, needed a wheelchair, interpretor (she suddenly couldn’t speak English), and the food provided didn’t meet her religious standards.
A bunch of “victim” crap.
Was she in this country ILLEGALLY?
Yes?
Then deport her ass. She is subject to whatever deportation process Congress has authorized and the executive deems appropriate. Since she has neither a liberty nor a property interest in being present in the United States ILLEGALLY and since deportation is not “punishment” it is merely enforcement of federal immigration law, the process she is due is whatever the deportation process implemented by the executive is.
That is the uncontested ruling of federal courts going back more than a century.
And she was hiding out in a sanctuary city.
“disabilities and health issues”: How expensive was that?!?
“Breaking the law for 30 years” should be the headline
And who was paying for it while she was here?
she could not easily get up from the floor, as she had surgery on both knees.
And you know who paid for that. California has it’s own SS system for illegals.
I don’t believe the story. Whole ice thing is ludicrous.
“There was no rationale to detain Bibi Harjit Kaur,”
ILLEGAL ALIEN how f’n hard is that to not see.
Yes, breaking the law does horrible things to a person and their family.
She should be ashamed she broke the law for so long.
How much has she siphoned out of America before she was thrown out???
Housing, food, surgeries??????
They need to take everything they have before deporting them to try to recoup some of the expenses they stole to live here. Jewelry, money, gold teeth - I don’t care what it is- WE PAID FOR IT.
DID SHE VOTE.
“ILLEGAL ALIEN how f’n hard is that to not see.”
The lawyer makes the crime a non-event and instantly wins the argument. He’s saying, ICE (horror movie violin shriek!) had no reason therefore there’s nothing to talk about except the injury you subjected my client to. Virtually every liberal argument uses the same tactic. It’s infuriating. But when putting out a statement to the great unthinking mass of people you need to protest on your side...very effective.
Due to a combination of being an illegal immigrant with disabilities, granny would almost certainly have been on public benefits for decades. Her “American Dream” was for the US to pay for her medical care and living expenses as the provider of public welfare to all comers. The family now so loudly concerned about granny’s well being did nothing of consequence to comply with American law or prepare for the practical risk of deportation at any time. Indeed, granny even declined the DHS general public offer of a free ride home with extra cash.
