Station wagons must be the ugliest cars ever designed. I remember them from childhood. My family didn’t have one, but a friend’s family did and I got to ride around in it frequently. Ugly. Ugly. Ugly.
I remember that ours was a Ford. When we kids would pile in the back in the Texas summer, the metal pieces would feel like they were branding us.
We had a 1978 Chevy Malibu Station Wagon when I was growing up. That thing had a great engine, 305 cubic inch V8.
Check out the Chevrolet Nomad or Pontiac Safari or other two-door station wagons of the 1950s. IMO those were lovely cars, even if they were station wagons.
I had 5 brothers and my Dad loved the 1957 Mercury station wagon he bought. It was ugly..lol.
So what kind of suv do you have?

Ford Country Sedan. 390 CID. OVER 4,000 pounds. That was our family car. Most my friends families had the Buick, Pontiac, or Oldsmobile, big block station wagons. Toss in a few New Yorkers and two drive shafts Lincoln Town cars, and we rolled around in beasts!
My mom had a 73 Olds Custom Cruiser. It was a massive beast.
Our church had a broken window. They asked a friend and o to replace it. He forgot the key so since the window was broken anyway, we eighteen year old geniuses backed the wagon up to the window and jumped on the roof to climb into the church.
As my friend was most of the way inside, suddenly cops converged from all directions. The entire department showed up.
We managed to talk our way out of it.
Station wagons are the absolute BEST car design ever imagined! You get the smooth transitions of a sedan from the front, then the cargo capacity of a truck in the rear.
I absolutely LOVE station wagons, and am curious as to why anyone could dislike them. They’re a whole lot more pleasant to look at than what they call SUVs today.
I’m curious, what platform do you prefer? 4 X 4 crewcabs?
Father owned a 1969 Ford LTD Country Squire. It was the family car. Father sold off Mother's cherry red mustang to get it. It had wood paneling and a rack on the roof, etc. Father kept the car well into the mid 1980s.
This is mot an original pic of the car, but this is exactly what it looked like, including the green color.
