And the hate continues for Caitlin Clark.
The Minnesota Lynx were recently eliminated from the WNBA postseason after the franchise suffered defeat against the Phoenix Mercury in the semifinals.
Phoenix will now square off against the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA Finals.
Napheesa Collier, a forward for Minnesota, sent shockwaves across the league Tuesday in her exit interview, which is part of the year-end responsibilities for the Lynx. When speaking about the WNBA itself, Collier was positive regarding its future, however, she’s not a fan of the league’s hierarchy. And she was specifically talking about commissioner Cathy Engelbert.
Collier stated that the WNBA has “the best fans in the world, the best players in the world, but the worst leadership in the world.” When reporters asked her about those comments, she claimed that while speaking with Engelbert recently, the commissioner of the league said that Indiana Fever phenom Caitlin Clark should be appreciative of the WNBA. And why?
Well, apparently they’re the reason why Clark has been raking in the cash with sponsorships.
“I asked how she planned to fix the fact that players like Caitlin [Clark], Angel [Reese] and Paige [Bueckers], who are clearly driving massive revenue for the league, are making so little their first four years,” said Collier. “Her response was, ‘Caitlin should be grateful she makes $16 million off the court, because without the platform that the WNBA gives her, she wouldn’t make anything.’ In that same conversation, she told me, ‘Players should be on their knees thanking their lucky stars for the media rights deal that I got them.'”

Good for her.
Any comment denoting women should “be on their knees” for anything is just bad form.
Those players should take their endorsements and move to Europe. Let’s see how the WNBA feels about that.
They are never going to garner NBA salaries, but these women are way underpaid.
And what would the commissioner be doing without the league?
Running Exxon?
CC would make significantly more in her actual playing salary in the Euro FIBA league. Endorsements is hard to gauge, but it could be even more as she would be an even more dominate player as the top Euro leagues are a bit less competitive than the WNBA.
The WNBA has lost a TON of money every year since inception, and the only reason it exists is from massive subsidies from the men.
So technically, the women are OVERPAID, including Engelbert.
“And what would the commissioner be doing without the league?
Running Exxon?”
Well, on some corner in New Jersey possibly. Sir, will that be regular or high test? Check the oil?
She could have and still probably could make 50 times or so her WNBA salary by joining the Big 3 basketball league.
She’s not wrong actually. If they weren’t playing in the WNBA, they would NOT be getting those big dollar endorsements.
Now the players are foolish to think the league can pay them more money when the league has lost money every single year of its existence.
Both things can be right at the same time.
Probably why she can afford to play in the WaNna-Be-A.
The players ought to think of the league as exposure to land the big endorsements. Anything they get paid by the WNBA is bonus cash.
These women tell us more about the state of modern women than anything else in society.
🤣
Exactly!!!
If I were Clark , I’d be on the first plane to Europe!!
WNBA too stupid to know how to promote the league. Letting your top star get unfairly bludgeoned ...is STUPID.
Clark could go to Europe AND take endorsements with her. Most companies doing endorsements are international anyway.
She might do worse, but she has enough money stockpiled that with a good investment counselor she is set.
In the past...bball teams would barnstorm the country and take on all comers ..CC could start a league like that...fun game...CC team vs Harlem Globetrotters..or CC team vs. lady college senior all star team in 3 game series..have fun instead of this “we bad” nonsense...
Anything said by the WNBA is the 180 reverse of the truth.
Am I missing something? What entity has an exit interview as part the individual's responsibility?
"Hey, Napheesa, why are you leaving the Lynx?"
The same entity that had you sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement is also expecting you to answer questions. Um, no. Just no.
Cracker Barrel
Collier is a cutie
She could probably have made more in Japan as a player and in those strange Japanese commercials.
