Your car will be driven by software, if the car allows you to get into the car based on facial recognition software. *shudder*

That way they can be sure they’re killing the right person when “they” decide to commandeer your vehicle for your “accidental” death because you became a threat to them, or maybe even just a nuisance. *shudder* is the right reaction.

To this day, I believe at least one of the two people in the Bentley that crashed on the Rainbow Bridge on the New York/Canada border on November 22, 2023, was targeted for death. I’ll remember that day always because I was playing bridge in Buffalo, NY, and became trapped in the US when almost all New York bridges to Canada were temporarily closed after the crash. When I got home after dark 6 hours late and opened the door, my beloved and frantic year-old puppy, Nala, bolted outside between my legs and was killed by either a coyote or a pack of racoons within a few minutes after running into a forest next to my house.

The butterfly effect of that crash made me wonder two things (1) Is anything ever really random or are all events connected somehow to all other events? and (2) A high degree of technology in a vehicle makes it easier for outside forces to take control of the car. It was reported that the Bentley was travelling in a confined area at an “absurdly-high speed”. There was also a persistent rumour whispered among people in the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area that one or both of the Villanis (deceased couple) had information about a child abuse ring operating in the Western New York area. And then the whole thing quietly went away. And my dog was killed, which will never go away for me.

...“they” decide to commandeer your vehicle...

Saw a video the other day explaining how hackers can get into the computer of your car through the tire pressure monitors.
Unincripted network, drive by wire, collision avoidance system...I’ll never own a vehicle with these “features”.

If I get into my self driving car and I’m drunk, can I be arrested for drunk-riding ?

I remember when your dog was lost. That had to be awful.

And you’re right - any car that can access the internet can, IMHO, be hacked. And almost everything in the car these days ties in to the computer. Even the brakes. No purely mechanical brake on my last 3 vehicles, and they had pushbutton start so you can’t even physically turn off the car. Gear linkage in this one is all electronic, just a stupid knob on the console.
