As I compiled this message, the month of October was knocking on the door, and we’ll soon be in the midst of it. The older I get, the faster time seems to speed past. Living here in Wisconsin, we value our spring, summer and even our fall months very highly. Because we know January is coming. There’s no stopping it.
Today as I write, the weather outside is beautiful. Warm, bright and sunny. The leaves are starting to turn color, but the peak time for viewing the spectacular colors of fall is still a few weeks away. We just had a couple weeks of cold and rainy weather when it seemed like summer had turned to winter overnight. My wife, always the encourager, reminded me that those precious Indian Summer days would come, and now they’re here. But still, I know… January is coming.
I’m always busy, which is both a blessing and a curse. Those who know me have described me as “driven,” “focused,” “intense,” “hard-working.” I guess those things are true, but there’s so much work to be done, all the time, every day. For me, it seems to be non-stop. If I want a day off, I need to schedule it — and be diligent to stick to that schedule no matter what. And I need to schedule it weeks, and sometimes months, in advance. I’m grateful for the work God has given me to do. I’m grateful for every opportunity to share His Word and His truths. And we need to remember that sometimes, we only get one opportunity, just one encounter with someone, to do that.

I live down south and was in New England last week. I think the harsh winters make those people happier during the warmer months. Everyone (waiters, etc.) was nice and upbeat.
Only one thing worse than January and that’s the mercifully short February.
Reminds me of a business trip I took with a couple of co-workers from Florida to Connecticut in February. My co-workers ordered iced tea with their dinner. The waitress was nice but looked at them like they were crazy and said, "It's February". Co-workers asked, "So what?". Apparently, they only serve iced tea in the summer. Eventually they ordered hot tea and a glasses of ice to solve the problem.

I’d like to go up there during a cold, snowy month just to see what it’s like.
January is a tough month up North, but often it’s not perfect weather in Florida either. I think Southern CA is great weather in January BUT for the CA taxes and regulations.
Here in north Idaho, we get the January thaw which turns the landscape into a giant slurpee for a couple of weeks, followed by another maybe 6 weeks of hard winter where all the tracks we created and wallowed in turn into iron-hard vehicle traps. Then come March we get Mud season which sorta overlaps with Spring. Fun times.
