So you throw out a general statement without providing any other examples of countries that cancelled elections during war. The fact of the matter is that most democracies do not cancel elections during war, but both the UK and Canada delayed elections in WWI. Canada held elections in 1940, then again in 1945. The UK cancelled their 1940 elections. New Zealand cancelled their elections during WWII as well. Australians went to the polls during both wars.
Parliamentary elections have also been postponed in Israel due to conflict, for example during the Yom Kippur war in 1973. More recently, in 2023 local elections were pushed back following the 7 October attacks, though these were ultimately held a few months later, while the war in Gaza was still ongoing.
Regarding Britain's withholding elections, the blitz ended in May 1941...plenty of time to hold elections once the immediate threat of bombardment and invasion ended. Even the V1 and V2 rockets didn't show up until 1944, the year before the war ended.
Wouldn't it have been nice if the people of Britain who claimed to have a democracy at the time, had been given the choice of holding elections while they were at war? That would have been the fair choice. A referendum should have been voted on. No man or woman of voting age should be sent to die in a war without the ability to be able to vote while that war is going on.
I'm sure there were plenty of times when Churchill and the rest of his party members who were tossed out of power in 1945 and replaced by Labour, kicked themselves in the ass for not holding elections during the war.

Churchill appeased the opposition with three cabinet appointees - Halifax, Chamberlain, Beaverton. But it was window dressing. He had enough support to any desires to appease Hitler. Halifax got no change from Churchill and Churchill sidelined him by sending him to the U.S. Churchill converted Chamberlain, but no matter, Chamberlain’s illness sidelined him anyway. Beaverton had his differences with Churchill but he was not one pushing for appeasement with Germany.

2. The exact situations are not analogous. There are enough differences between the U.K. at war in WWII and Ukraine defending itself now, that one cannot say the circumstances are equal.

Yes, in my initial comment I did not mention any particular countries that skipped elections during a war; only that there were nations that skipped elections during war. I knew that was true, but, yes, did not mention any.
Then you did us all a favor by confirming that what I said was true, by providing a notice of some such nations during war.
And yes, I said “democracies” as it is generally democracies that have elections - dictators and many “kingdoms” don’t bother or have sham elections.
