Disclosure by the FBI to Congress answers a long-simmering question but does not reveal what the agents did that day.
The FBI has acknowledged it had 274 plainclothes agents in the massive crowds on Jan. 6, 2021, more than four and a half years after questions were first raised about the level of FBI involvement that day, Blaze News has learned.
A senior congressional source said the number is not necessarily a surprise, since the FBI often embeds countersurveillance personnel at large events.
But given the FBI’s until-now steadfast refusal to disclose the level of its presence at the Capitol, the figure might still be viewed with skepticism in some quarters.
The news comes in the wake of claims by the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Inspector General that the FBI had no undercover personnel in the Jan. 6 crowds.
“We found no evidence in the materials we reviewed or the testimony we received showing or suggesting that the FBI had undercover employees in the various protest crowds, or at the Capitol, on January 6,” the DOJ OIG said in an 88-page report released in December 2024.

I think it is likely that undercover FBI and the busloads of ANTIFA dressed as Trump supporters were the ones breaking windows and harassing the police. And then the Capitol doors were unlocked and opened to look like a breach of the building.

I saw the door opened by security, and the Patriots being allowed inside the the Capitol on Fox News. Where did that video go? You don’t forget these things, like the Space Shuttle Challenger, or George Wallace getting shot.(you remember what you remember)
At the time there were stories of three busses full of ANTIFA escorted into town by the police (don’t know if Capitol or DC police). Social media had them all reminding each other not to forget to wear Trump Gear.
PLEASE be aware, it was not a "one-off" event. The completely corrupted, woke Obama FBI was engaged in political influence and agitations operations everywhere, at all times.
Actually he said they had no undercover “employees” in the crowd. Playing word games. A paid asset isn’t necessarily an employee but does much the same undercover work at the direction of the bureau.
It is the naivete of the Jan 6 MAGA that they did not protect themselves.
I used to participate in Chicago’s NCO-Northwest Community Org, an Alinsky organization that was in theory and practice “law abiding”. We wouldn’t so much as jay-walk on a protest. We always crossed in the crosswalk.
On numerous occasions outsiders, mostly from the east side of the Chicago River would try to “infiltrate” us with the intent to hijack our numbers for their issue as the NCO issues had numbers and the ideological left issues had no numbers of people.
There were several of us in NCO that intentionally steered the unwanted outsiders away from us. Often we did this by saying that the TV cameras were at some other protest in the city. The unwanted outsiders went where they thought the TV cameras were.
NCO would have 2,000 people marching around city hall and no TV camera...barely a mention on beside the obituaries in the paper. But the group with just 20 protesters would have TV cameras because they had drama....plus the media staff was sleeping with the protestors.
NCO lost its integrity when its staff started sleeping with the TV staff.
I remember the number as being as whole lot less. Was that informants or agents, or both?
Approximately 2.1% of the entire special agent workforce of 13,000 or so.
It is possible that some of them were, but it clearly is true that at least some of the people engaging in that activity were actual protestors, not FBI.
