A customer had some reservations about his bill at a restaurant.
One frustrated customer claimed that they were charged a “quiet time surcharge” on their bill, which was added before the tip — because the restaurant they dined at was empty.
The user shared on Reddit that they decided to check out a local restaurant for the first time, which seemed to be a quiet place to dine.
What seemed like a good thing quickly went south.
“At the end [of the meal], I check my bill and there’s an extra 20% pre-tip charge labelled ‘Quiet Time Surcharge,'” they explained.
The diner assumed it was an error and asked the server what it meant. The server apparently looked “sheepish” before explaining.
According to the Reddit post, the server said something along the lines of, “management says when it’s not busy, you’re basically getting the place to yourself. It’s kind of like flying private instead of commercial.”

Once upon a time went to a local sushi restaurant with my (then) spouse, based upon reviews from friends. It was dinner time, but the place was empty. As SOON as we walked in, we noticed an odor. At the front door was a fish tank. It didn’t look very clean and at first glance, there were no fish to be seen, until I bent over and saw the dead fish floating at the top by the skimmer. We beat a path out of there, laughing.
Yeah, pix or it didn’t happen, in this case. Probably didn’t happen even with a Photoshopped image.
Any, and I mean any, discussion there devolves into far leftist gobbledygook.
I would have told the manager, “Well, I’m adding my 75% FU discount onto the bill.”

Agreed, however this place was supposedly new.
My apologies. The mill I was working in is in Franklin. The restaurant is The Tokyo Grill in Suffolk which is down the street from the Riverside Hilton I was staying in. In Franklin.. my go to El Ranchero!
I would have told them to “Pound salt!”
I would inform the restaurant that I intend to add to their future quietness.
This is becoming very common.
The diner should send the r3steraunt a bill for 30% of their bill stating that they are charg8ng the resteraunt 30% for the p4ivilege of serving the diner!

We stopped patronizing a local seafood restaurant after covid because they started a surcharge for plasticware and styrofoam boxes for takeout orders.
