Wild video released by the Prince George’s County Police Department shows what officers describe as "illegal car takeovers" that have been causing chaos in Maryland.
The aerial footage captures dozens of people standing within feet of cars spinning wildly at high speeds in places like shopping center parking lots.
The video landed amid an ongoing political battle over crime in Maryland.
Gov. Wes Moore has invited President Donald Trump to take part in a "safety walk" in Baltimore to highlight crime-reduction efforts.
Trump, meanwhile, has criticized Moore, accusing him of failing in public safety and posted on Truth Social in August that he would send in the troops.
"After only one week, there is NO CRIME AND NO MURDER IN DC! When it is like that in Baltimore, I will proudly ‘walk the streets’ with the failing, because of Crime, Governor of Maryland. P.S. Baltimore is ranked the 4th WORST CITY IN THE NATION IN CRIME & MURDER," the president wrote. Trump Truth Social
The release of the footage also came as local police charged 18-year-old Naef Salmo of Millersville in connection with a crash that seriously injured a woman during one of these types of car takeovers.

“highlight crime-reduction efforts”
A wise Jedi master said, “Do, or do not. There is no try.”
Saying “efforts” is like saying, “I have made efforts to quit smoking.”
“Did you quit smoking?”

There is a simple way to put a stop to this jackassery........impound every vehicle involved and crush them flat.

We’ve had “bro’s doing burnouts” in Tampa for years at the local Walmart Supercenter lot at 2 and 3 in the morning. During the day you can see the black tire rubber tracks going in concentric circles. The noise they make when it’s happening is horrific. Ever since COVID when Walmart ended its 24/7 shopping policy and closed the stores down at 11 pm.
I always thought this sort of thing was especially popular among young hispanics. They love dolling up their cars . . . and they’re very good at it.
Please, don’t insult jackasses. They are more intelligent than the car kooks.
What is an “illegal car takeover”? Carjacking? Is the car being taken over, or is the car doing the taking over? What would a “legal car takeover” be like?
Journalists. Why can’t they just describe what is going on? They were so much better when they just had high school diplomas and were called “reporters”.
These folks need midnight basketball.
I’m surprised it wasn’t on the Beltway there as it has been. It’s one reason I stay on the western side when traveling north.
The answer is yes if you are talking about doing them with total impunity and no fear of consequences.
In the Sixties when I grew up there was a bit of street racing and burnouts but it was done with lookouts and fear of consequences.

They need 10 lashes with a cat-o-nine-tails, then to be pilloried in the public square for passers-by to pelt with rocks and garbage.

Sometimes the vehicles are stolen.
People who think they can do what happens in Budds Creek (on the other side of the VA/MD split) for the Potomac Nationals drag show that’s happening next spring.
Impound and sell. Some pro drifter will buy the cars and use them on regional and national drifting series.
