India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal reacted to the H-1B visa fee being hiked to $100,000 by US President Donald Trump, saying that the world is “a little afraid of Indian talent” and exhorted Indians working abroad to “come to India, innovate here, design here”. Goyal, who will be leading the Indian delegation in the US for the next round of talks for a trade deal amid tensions over tariffs, made remarks apparently reacting to the $100,000 fee on H-1B visas used mostly by high-skilled Indian workers in the US.
The minister also said that “different countries across the world also want to do Free Trade Agreements with India”.
“They want to increase trade with India. They want to improve relations,” he said, in a video clip from a speech that he shared on his X handle.
After a pause and smile, Goyal added, “They are also a little afraid of our talent. We have no objection to that either.”
The commerce minister then urged the Indian talent to “come to India, innovate here, design here”. He said that will make the economy grow even more rapidly and added, “So we are winners, come what may.”
He also spoke about being “on a mission mode” to make it easier for businesses in India, promoting manufacturing, and supporting international trade.

I agree with him. Let Indians make India great, and let Americans make America great again.

Since technology has been at a standstill for the last 10 years, since the H-1B guys got here, I endorse this!
Looks like the SpecialH1Bsock is pakreepmaximus’s new troll...
Why he not on FR donor board? Where he troll next?
The Indian economy is not robust because it is over regulated and, therefore, corrupt. There’s also very little public infrastructure, which requires government to invest in things like power plants and distribution networks. Hard to do when everyone with a finger in the pie is also on the take.
You can’t innovate if you need reliable electricity, power and reliable and cheap transportation. So, his message is, hey, go live in a society that does not exist.

The $100,000 fee is way too high.
The base fee should be around $5,000.
Then there should be an annual inverse salary fee:
1. 10% of the salary amount less than $200,000, plus
2. 20% of the salary amount less than $120,000.
If the salary is $80,000, the annual inverse salary fee would be $12,000 plus $8,000.
There probably should be an annual age fee if the worker is less than 50 years old, perhaps say $200 per year less than 50 years of age.
The minimum salary amount should be 120% of the most recent DoL salary survey average for the degree and (interpolated) years of experience.
The H-1Bs should be bid out and awarded based on the salary premium to the minimum.
The number of winning bids should start at 1,000 and go up by 20 if the average premium increases and down by 20 if the average premium decreases, but to no less than 500 nor more than 2,000.
A bid fee of say $2,000 should be charged to help ensure bids are genuine.
There would be no legal requirement to search for an American candidate. The idea that a qualified American can’t be found is almost always bogus.
For each employer: total H-1B salaries < FICA tax paid in a prior tax year going back up to four years
That would limit H-1Bs to about 8% of employees.
American kids need to sure they have a future before signing for student loans.
Note that under my fee schedule, the high-quality people would get in and stay in at low fee rates.
There are a lot of slave Indians that come here to work for very little American wages. These people work for “consultants” But they all have H1B visas that are totally controlled by their bosses. If they do wrong they lose their visas. They are not sent back. They are stuck here with no job. And they become illegal. They work as quality control software testers and they work in blood testing labs and other places that need lots of low level skilled labor.
With Trump saying each one of these companies need to pay the government $100K for each visa. They will go back to hiring Americans again. And these people can go back to India. We have lots of people to take those jobs. We don’t need Indian slaves.
Q3 donor board?
Works For me, and no we are not afraid of your talent. We will surpass you, once we have the opportunities to do so.

I forecast about 1.3 billion mooching Gimmes in socialist India come 2050.
India has a low ratio of smart to dumb people.
India has a very low ratio of hard-working to lazy people.
Remember, the very worst colonial thing the Brits did to India was to bring in socialist ideas.
When I was Kerala, India for a couple of months in 2015. The village we were in had no sewage system. The government would send a truckload of pipes to remedy the situation and after a while, all the pipes would be stolen. Only to be sold back to the company that sold the pipes to the government in the first place. Everybody knew this was happening and nobody seemed to be motivated to stop it. Maybe the H-1B guys could work on that.
I completely disagree. The fee should be so high that it compels them to find American talent first.
Also, the system has been gamed for so long, it needs severe measures to curtail it.
How many Indians does it take to figure out that my PC’s software is often sluggish?
More than Microsoft has.
