Orcas are behaving strangely, lately.
Lately, there’s been a surge in incidents involving Orcas in the Oceans, from a pair of giant beasts killing 17 sharks in one day to a series of attacks on boats.
Now, it’s reported that a pod of killer whales has ‘repeatedly rammed and sunk’ a small yacht filled with tourists out on the coast of Portugal.
The targeted vessel was sailing off the coast of Fonte da Telha beach last Saturday, when the animals struck it.
Daily Mail reported:
“Footage shows several orcas chasing the boat before they start violently slamming against it, sending the sailors into a panic as one person shouts ‘Oh my God’.
The ship tilts dangerously from side to side before slowly submerging and sinking.”
The Portuguese National Maritime Authority stated that the sailboat belonged to the Nautic Squad club and carried five people, all tourists.
“A second recreational vessel, further north off Cascais, carried four people and also had to be assisted after encountering the same group of orcas.”

Nine people on board of the two boats were rescued by nearby vessels before the official lifeguards reached the scene.
“The Maritime Authority said the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre received the first alert at 12:30pm and dispatched lifeguards immediately. […] Some reported seeing a pod of four orcas, while another skipper said just one whale struck the rudder two or three times, causing cracks that let water flood in.”
Sailors are staying in port after it’s been revealed that the killer whales have shifted their yacht attacks to shallow waters.
Ever since 2019, the orcas have repeatedly targeted boats in the sea of Galicia, usually striking the rudder.
“Between 2020 and 2023 there were reportedly around 500 attacks.”

They needed a bigger boat.
It must be fun.
I hear that this is one pod doing this.
It was taught by one older female to the whole pod.
Eventually this behavior could spread to other pods as whales making it a behavior for basically all orcas in any ocean.
My thought is they unfortunately need to cull this pod.

I have heard that someone on that boat got loudly drunk and started telling whale jokes. The Orcas were not amused.
Betting it’s the offshore wind turbines that are agitating then.
I think of my neighbor, who lets her big dogs off the leash at the park - and when they charge at you, she yells: “They just want to play!!”
Maybe the Orcas “just want to play.”

So now I am curious, what is a “Yacht”?
Because that just looks like a boat in the picture.
Does it have a sleep cabin/deck?

Until after WWII, it was common for boats to have a firearm, such as a rifle, for security.
A couple of rifle shots tend to stop such attacks. It appears it has been the world wide attack on civilian arms which has been the reason for lack of arms on most civilian vessels.
So then,the orcas have been doing this for a while...not just lately ( as stated in the text of the article)...for all the “save the whale” types...orcas are known to kill whales, mostly juvenile, but some adults...humpback and blue whales..these guys were on a late night food run...
That has been suggested.
But the orcas target the rudders of the boats they attack to disable them from escaping..................

Their favorite food is seals, yet they didn't attack the swimmers. No, I think they were just out for a little fun.
We should be shooting the ones that do it. They'll learn quickly that it's not a good game.
There is no definition for ‘yacht’.
It simply means a boat that is made for pleasure sailing or cruising. It can be sail or motor propelled. It can even be a racing boat. It can be large or small. It’s just a name for a boat that has no commercial use like a cargo ship...............
Has the woke epidemic spread to the orcas?
I remember the old SEA HUNT with Lloyd Bridges. In one episode there is a killer whale giving them problems.. Bridges says “They need to be wiped off the earth!”
