Its been decades since I was in a Lidl there and stateside they are all back east.
Aldi was such a natural fit here where I live you would think that Lidl would have made the jump here right away too as it would be petty much a guaranteed success.
Anyway...
Its weird, I was never someone that appreciated dark chocolate until I moved to Europe and began to understand what it was supposed to taste like. Now every two or three weeks its one of my few guilty pleasures.
I don’t eat dark chocolate, and prefer milk chocolate. I’m a fan of Giaradelli’s Milk Chocolate Salted Caramel Wafers...and Whoppers, even though they are made by Hershey. I don’t like Hershey Chocolate bars. I always liked Nestle’s Milk Chocolate Bars, but they don’t make them in bar size anymore. They only come in miniature size in a bag with the rest of the crap they make that I won’t eat.
Being a German store, they don't sell Ritter Bars. My son either buys him when he goes to Germany, or he orders them from an online German Store here in the U.S. The one thing I don't like about Aldi's is that they don't continually carry the same products from week to week. I'll find something that's good, but then when I go back again, they don't have it, and it doesn't get restocked ever again, or it takes a long time. My oldest son told me about Chicken and Pork Schnitzel patties at the Aldi's in Latham, NY sometime last year. I looked for them at the Aldi's here in Rome, NY, and they had none. They finally showed up 3-4 months ago, sold out quickly, and they haven't gotten them back again. He also told me about gyro kits he's found in the freezer section at the same Aldi's he usually shops with. They haven't shown up here. I've tried another Aldi's a little farther away, but they have none of the things I previously got at my local Aldi's. It's hit or miss with Aldi's.
Yes Mr. GG2 only eats the dark chocolate bars.
Honestly I havent seen or tasted that. I use Rao’s for things like penne alla vodka, vear parm, and using it when my left over sauce needs to be added to.
Lady friend makes sauce from scratch, which is always better than store bought. But her mood for food doesn't not always align with my need to feed.
Check out Yo Mama's sauce. It's really good.
I only use marinara and tomato and basil and those are as good as in the past. As for Bolognese, I make my own.
Understand, their schnitzel is seasonal, we stock up on stuff when they have it. Try their key lime cheesecake, very respectable. May God bless you and all those you love.
I would, but I don't like Key Lime pie. I make a wonderful NY Style cheesecake from scratch that requires cream cheese and sour cream, 6 egg yolks, sugar, flour, lemon juice, also beating the leftover 6 egg whites at the end until firm, then folding them into the batter before putting it in the prepared springform pan. You bake the cheesecake for an hour, then you have to turn the oven off, and leave it in the over for an hour, then cool it on a rack for another hour before putting it in the fridge overnight. The first time I ever made the recipe, and it was many years ago, I think it took me 3 hours to make the batter because I was so careful to follow the instructions to the T.
Thank you so much for taking the time with your thoughtful response. My wife has a really good cheesecake recipe, it is one of my favorites. May God bless you and all you love.
Thanks for your kind response and blessings. The same right back at you and yours. I’m glad your wife’s recipe for cheesecake that fills the bill. I never make it for myself...too much for one person, but I do make it when I visit my niece and her family. In fact, I’m visiting them in early October, and will be bringing one with me.
