One of the key conditions that King’s College professor David Betz says leads to civil war: an elite radically disconnected from the masses.
Civil war is coming,” David Betz told a Budapest audience on Thursday night. And later: “Sorry, but I don’t think there is a peaceful solution at this time.”
Betz should know. The professor is head of the war studies department at King’s College London and is an academic expert in civil war. For years he has been writing that all the conditions for civil war to break out have been met in most Western countries; all that is needed is a spark.
Betz’s message has gained far more attention this year, thanks to podcast interviews like this one with Harrison Pitt of europeanconservative.com. What makes his warnings especially chilling is that he delivers them calmly, driven by data and logical analysis. He is the furthest thing from a wild-eyed apocalypticist shouting on a street corner.
By “civil war,” Betz does not mean two uniformed armies clashing. He’s talking instead about violent chaos, like Northern Ireland during the Troubles, Italy’s ‘Years of Lead,’ or the cataclysm that engulfed Yugoslavia as it broke up. He warned Budapesters that anyone who relishes the coming of civil war to get things sorted has no idea what they’re talking about. He predicted that millions will die in Europe, and millions more will be forcibly displaced, including through deportation.
Betz has been speaking mostly about civil war prospects in Great Britain and continental Europe, but his analysis also covers the United States. Civil war in America came a lot closer this week with the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

I honestly don’t know if any countries outside of maybe Hungary/Poland who would side with Republicans. We live in a godless world. Most of the world likes it that way.

I think Europe is much closer to it then the USA is.
Trump saved us I believe. Europe their leaders are still hell bent to let the 3rd world take over their nations.
Many on the left are hoping for a second event that will push the US closer to the brink.
I actually see it as 3x as likely in some European country. In this country, I think people are primarily LARPing violence with their rhetoric, but will back off and hide if there are limited skirmishes.
In Europe, it feels like blood in the streets, will do the opposite, cause more to join. Europe is about to explode.
The “Elite” aren’t radically disconnected. They are extremely connected.
Up through the 50s and 60s the Left at least agreed that everyone needs good jobs, careers, a house, a car, and affordable supplies of energy. We could agree on the basics. Just not how to best get there.
Now? They want to outlaw cars, gasoline, diesel, natural gas heat, coal, nuclear power electricity generation, make you eat bugs, live (and die) in crime infested shit holes etc etc. These platforms didn’t adapt from grass roots ground up organizations, they have been imposed by a top down anti-humanist collective.
I still think the book “Unintended Consequences” is how things will come down. More likely that citizens will go after the stumbling blocks in gov’t, at every level, to make them do the right thing. Finally.
The USA Political Left needs its own country.
The USA Political Right needs to seriously apply itself towards that solution.
Violent civil war is completely out of the question!
Violent civil war accomplishes only three goals...
The destruction of wealth.
The destruction of our standard of living.
And, the destruction of innocent life.
With these kind of “civil war” - troubles is probably a better term - it is better to have the government on your side.
The Republican party has become the Trumpian party. It is what is saving us.
