As a Lieutenant Colonel in the Marine Corps IG in 1990, we had an investigation into senior women officers and NCOs controlling assignments, promotions, and awards of women Marines through what was known as the "Lesbian Mafia". After a fairly long process, their leaders were removed and some normalcy was restored.

Through several investigations I conducted while in the Marines, I discovered that homosexual groups were all through the units, ranks, even services and their primary allegiance were to each other. In one investigation, I discovered that records were destroyed in three geographic locations while I interviewed the subject: he was a homosexual (which isn't why I was interviewing him - it was about his injury) and his fellow homosexuals tore up the records to protect him.

Now that "gays" are a protected class, the tendency to protect and shield their own still overrides their allegiance to the mission.
