Hundreds of people queued for hours in Bristol in the hope of joining an NHS dentist.
Lodge Causeway Dental Centre, in Fishponds, recently recruited three new dentists, which meant it could take on an additional 3,000 patients.
People queued from the early hours of the morning on Saturday 6 September, with many saying it is a struggle to find affordable dental treatment in the South West.
One man queuing told ITV News West Country: "I was up at about half past five this morning to get an NHS dentist. I've been trying for the last two years to get an NHS dentist in Bristol, and it's been impossible."

Ain’t “free,” “single-payer” health care wonderful?
“One man queuing told ITV News West Country: “I was up at about half past five this morning to get an NHS dentist. I’ve been trying for the last two years to get an NHS dentist in Bristol, and it’s been impossible.””
Reminds me of the Soviets lining up to buy meat.
One thing for sure, the UK’s ‘boat people’ will always FIRST IN LINE for medical treatment, no doubt.
They have dentists in England?
I can walk in to any number of dental clinics and get service within an hour.
Enjoy your free dental care. But the illegals go first.
They have regular dentists over there. You have to pay them, but you can easily get in.
They don't want to pay.
I’ve told this before, but my neighbor in Canada had a heart attack and was taken to North Bay for treatment. They sent her to Sudbury, about 80 miles away, since they didn’t have the equipment for a complete workup. Sudbury suggested she needed a triple bypass, but referred her to Toronto (just under 250 miles) for a complete battery of tests because they were not equipped for a complete set of tests. Toronto confirmed the need for a triple bypass and scheduled the surgery...13 months later! She died four months after the completed tests.
Which is better: Free medical care, or medical care that can save your life?
I know. But they wouldnt have to wait 2 years and haveeven worse problems. Not much practical thinking going on over there. I chipped a tooth over there. I went to a private dentist and got it taken care of quickly.
I took a look at the waiting line. I didn’t see King Charlie or any dukes anywhere. But maybe they’ll show up later.
I guess the old saying applies there.
Ain’t Socialism Grand.
English Teeth, English Teeth!
Shining in the sun
A part of British heritage
Aye, each and every one.
English Teeth, Happy Teeth!
Always having fun
Clamping down on bits of fish
And sausages half done.
English Teeth! HEROES' Teeth!
Hear them click! and clack!
Let's sing a song of praise to them -
Three Cheers for the Brown Grey and Black.
- Spike Milligan
By the looks of their teeth in Britain, one would think they still rely on Medieval Barbers to take care of them.
But it’s free, so why the complaint?
Just this one.
There's probably no need to "educate" you, but for the general FR audience, I say: There was a whole culture (specialized vocabulary, elaborate rules of conduct, etc.) in the unlamented Eastern Bloc around "waiting in lines."
One of the most telling remarks my wife has shared with me is that, when a Soviet citizen was walking randomly along the sidewalk in Moscow, and suddenly happened upon a long waiting line, he would automatically line up with the rest of them - even though he might have no idea what for. And even if it turned out, hours later, that the line was for, say, feminine hygiene products - which, as a bachelor, he didn't need - he'd nonetheless purchase half a dozen cartons of the stuff, to barter with later on.
Regards,
They don't want to pay.
In their minds, patronizing a "regular" dentist (instead of using NHS) would be tantamount to discovering a sizable pothole in the public road in front of your house, and instead of informing the Municipal Public Works Department (and hoping that they attend to it), hiring a private construction firm to repair it.
Because, after all, "health care is a fundamental right!" (spits)
They, essentially, have allowed themselves to slide into the rôle of "petitioner" vis-à-vis their govt., and sacrificed a lot of their freedoms - and, by gawd, they're not going to go back on that!
Regards,
Free, and worth every penny.
