In conservative Christians circles, a clear shot across the bow is calling someone LIBERAL. It’s a warning, like a mother giving her rambunctious child the stink eye. Watch out, or real consequences will follow!
We hear it all the time in Facebook comments on our Jackass Theology posts; as a preacher I sense it bubbling behind peoples’ questions to sermon content. It seems that to the Evangelical, the greatest fear is fear of being duped by, slipping into, or having compassion for THE LIBERAL AGENDA.
Liberals just make crap up
When someone is deemed liberal, their opinion no longer matters to conservatives, because in the mind of Evangelicals, liberals have abandoned the Bible, tradition, and orthodoxy, and now just make new crap up. So instead of patiently dialoguing, we put you in your place like a good ole’ fashioned Amish shunning, trading in scarlet “A’s” for its 21st century Conservative Evangelical equivalent, BLUE “L’s”

Have fun and flame away.
because like liberals, Jesus believed in abortion on demand.... /sarc
Was Jesus Liberal?
Of course, it depends on how you define it.
So, let’s do that. In the dictionary, liberal has a variety of meanings.
It's written tongue-in-cheek with a play on how the word "liberal" has been used differently over the years. On a related note, I sometimes hate that we've let the left takeover the word "liberal" knowing that their ways have nothing to do with liberty. The more classic definition of "liberal" (in a political sense) was a lot more small-government, conservative leaning.
Regardless it is tiresome and imho somewhat disrespectful to label our Lord liberal or conservative. Christ is what God’s (His) word says He is.
Adding to or taking from that which is biblical is heresy pure and simple.
That being said both liberals and conservative, and moderates are all wrong and sinful, as filthy rags and our attempts at reasoning corrupted beyond any semblance of truth without the Holy Spirit’s indwelling of us.
We’ve let the left take over many words and control the rhetoric, while the right rolls over and exposes their jugular and let’s them.
I’m so sick of it and it needs to stop!
Of course He was. And is. I am liberal myself. That has nothing to do with the wokies and other decadent nutcases who call themslves “liberals” but are the exact opposite. There’s nothing liberal about these people. They are intolerant, closed minded, and totalitarian. George Orwell had them pegged when he anticipated such things as “war is peace” and “Freedom is slavery”.
Liberals are lazy and expect everything handled to them. That’s not the way Jesus taught.
“Jesus was a Liberal! (written by a Conservative)”
Jesus was NOT a Liberal! (CHANGED) by a Conservative)
There,fixed it
That’s true.
At all.
Pronto.
I wish you had understood that the author noted that in the title he was a conservative so that he could debunk the leftist claim that “Jesus was a Liberal!”
It seems to me, the term “liberal” going back decades before woke stuff or even abortion, was the “liberal’s” claim to compassion, or as FR home page put it in the 1990’s “government largesse.” Of course conservative see a lot of it as preferring to spend other people’s money to make yourself feel good. So along comes mean old apostle Paul (Jesus promise about him was only that he would show him the things he must suffer, which he did right into Roman imprisonment), “I Tim 5:8,8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” or 5:16:16 “If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.”
Jesus is neither conservative nor liberal. He is Holy, omnipotent Creator God. We can neither pigeon hole Him by our standards nor by our definitions. The Bible alone defines Who He is, what His character is and how we should respond to Him and strive to be like Him. Of course there is a mindset found in conservative worldview that is more closely aligned with Jesus but none of us are perfect, sinless nor better than any other person and that includes our liberal folks.
I promise, I’m not at all pontificating here as much as I am saying its just way off base to try and call Christ by terms that we define ourselves with.
