When I lived in Europe twenty-five years after World War II and at the height of the Cold War, Americans were idolized! Everything American was prized! Even Coca Cola!

"The best thing that could happen would be to marry a nice American and move to the States" and "Just give me Texas and a swimming pool" are remarks I actually heard from German women.

Prosperity and the end of the Cold War soon made America and all things American quite the opposite.

At the rate Europe's going now, it won't be long before the Europeans will be begging those uncouth barbarian Americans to send their sons to save them yet again from their folly. Americans will once again be idolized and praised--until America restores Europeans once again to prosperity and sanity. Then Americans will once again be a bunch of uncouth barbarian upstarts. And the cycle will continue...that is, until the Americans reach the point of being no longer willing to send their sons to die in Europe to save Europe from its madness and stupidity.

The Europeans never begged us to save them. In particular, Germany actually declared war on us.
